Saving handwriting as Ink

I have an application that I want to capture a signature in. I am sensitive
to the need to protect the signature from tampering etc, and we are
evaluating a product from Softpro that captures a signature and saves it as
an image for inserting into a text field.

However, I am wondering if it is possible to save handwriting as ink instead
of converting it to typed text. One of the Tablet vendors I was speaking
with thought it was possible...perhaps in an earlier version. Any help is
appreciated.

Re: Saving handwriting as Ink

Paul,

It is very easy to capture a signature on a Tablet as ink. There is a
tutorial on my website "Hello Ink World" that shows how to create a form,
save a signature to an Access Database and retrieve the signatture. There
are all kinds of security and encryption you apply at a later time.

It is also easy to create an Access Forms project and save signatures
directly to Access.

Svaing and manipulating ink as "ink" provides a lot of flexibility that you
might need that you would lose if you convert it to some other graphic
formats.

Downloading the Tablet SDK from Microsoft and looking at the Serialization
sample is a good place to start.

Hope this helps,

Fritz

Re: Saving handwriting as Ink

Thx for yours Fritz.

That sounds promising. But, perhaps I should tell you a little more about
the environment in which we are developing our application. The
development/web serving environment is IBM Domino. The application interface
is Internet Explorer 5.5 or later. Users may be accessing the application
while disconnected from the server using Domino Off Line Services (DOLS), so
there cannot be a requirement for a server connection and I would prefer to
not require a copy of Access on the local client..

On one of our forms we have a rich text field, which is capable of
displaying images. In a perfect world, a User would simply use the pen to
sign their name in the input panel and have their signature saved as ink in
that rich text field.

Do you think this is possible without any third party software?

Thx again for your insight.

Paul
