| Motion M1400 or M1400C? I'm in the research process of purchasing a Tablet PC for personal use. So far the Motion M1400 is my favorite and I'm wondering if there's that much difference in the Centrino and Celleron processors to choose the M1400 vs. the M1400C. Anybody have any advice or a different tablet I should consider? Here's my list of requirements - slate style - 512 MB memory minimum - 40 Gig hard drive minimum - integrated bluetooth - integrated 802.11b/g - lightweight - long battery life - protective cover - detachable keyboard - car charger What else should I be considering? Thanks! Daniel -- -------------------------------------------------------------- | danielmbarton******.com | -------------------------------------------------------------- |

| Re: Motion M1400 or M1400C? Daniel, my personal preference, having used the Centrino chips in several Tablet PCs, is to stick with those. The Celeron may be less expensive, but I would prefer the performance of the Centrino. Since we do a lot of Ink work, I would also be thinking about boasting the RAM to 1 GB although that is probably less expensive doing it after purchase with Crucial or one of those companies which will match the existing RAM. If you are doing any outside work, I would also look into the View Anywhere screen. Normal Tablet PC screens don't handle sunlight very well. You might take a look at the comparison charts on Tablet PC MVP Terri Stratton's web site: http://thetabletpc.net . She has full information on all slates available to date. -- Chris H. Will the regular screen work ok for this function? Thanks! | Re: Motion M1400 or M1400C? Why would I buy Crucial? Because they match up exactly the second stick of RAM just by putting in the information they ask for on their web site. There are a couple others as good, like Kingston, which will do the same thing. Crucial is actually Micron, which manufactures a lot of OEM sticks in the first place. 8-) You could very easily purchase a Motion, for instance, with the stock 512 MB already in place and then add another 512 stick (second slot is open) for a gig of RAM. The difference being the original single stick is going to cost you roughly $210 or so. At Crucial, etc., it will probably be around $120. I think if you're in a well-shaded area, you should be fine with the regular screen. -- Chris H. You may think this is a weird question, but can you read a Motion M1400 screen while wearing polarized sunglasses? Some displays are not visable through polarized lenses. Thanks! After fiddling with settings, my TPC (ViewSonic V1250) can be made legible in sunlight, but I wouldn't recommend counting on that, and those probably weren't settings conducive to everyday usage. It's not something you'd want to read for an hour. Normally, if I'm in my car, and sunlight hits or comes near the tablet, the screen appears completely blank. Makes it rather difficult to start Media Player, so I can listen to my tunes. My TPC requires a little handling, occasionally, to compete with bright lighting. -- TCPW The Miniature Mage |
