I need help buying a tablet PC

I need help buying a tablet PC

I definitely prefer writing to typing.

My 2 most important requirements are:
- It is FAST
- has excellent handwriting recognition capabilities

and the third requirement...hopefully it will be economical to buy.

I do not need much HD capacity. I am not looking for anything bulky and
heavy.
(It should allow wireless internet access)

My needs are to:
access the internet
check /read emails
read attachments
cut and paste Word documents
pretty basic work.

I am not going to play games or watch DVD's etc. Nothing fancy. So
graphics are not important.

Can anyone suggest any Tablets PCs that offer good value for money and
meet the above requirements.
Any particular brands, prices etc ?

Thanks
Tina

Fast at what?

> - has excellent handwriting recognition capabilities

All tabletPCs use the same system for handwriting recognition, so that
doesn't help separate them!

Economical meaning what?

So why do you need fast? Nothing in the list above involves being fast,
so any tabletPC will be able to meet these demands.

All tabletPCs meet the above requirements.

Starting again with more important questions:
What weight are you looking for?
Do you want a keyboard or not, or would you like one that can bolt on?
When you say 'Economy' and 'value for money', what sort of range are you
talking?
What sort of size screen do you want?

Re: I need help buying a tablet PC

Tina, there are quite a few which would satisfy your needs. I would
suggest, however, to make sure whatever your final choice is that you make
sure the memory can be expanded. There's a "sweet spot" for Windows XP Pro
(the operating system) at about 512 MB of RAM. Couple that with the
additional operations of handwriting, etc., and a gig of RAM is most
beneficial.

I'd also suggest you take a look at the comparison charts which Tablet PC
MVP Terri Stratton has on her web site: http://thetabletpc.net . She has
all the latest product information. Do your research before you decide.

RE: I need help buying a tablet PC

As the others have pointed out, your requirements should be served by any
tablet out there. I love my Acer. I will suggest a convertible. You may
prefer handwriting, but the keyboard is a wonderful tool to have when needed.

I think mine is just under 4lbs. But that can be easily checked at acer.com.
