Technet download:

The page says "network installation package" but will work fine on a
standalone computer.

If your system is unstable, updating with Windows XP SP2 and the Tablet PC
Edition 2005 will NOT fix the issues but probably really compound them. I
would suggest you first determine the problems and see if they can be fixed
BEFORE updating.

suspect you may have either a virus or serious
malware/spyware/hijacking/parasite problem on your machine and should check

In addition to what Chris H. said, I believe Windows Update requires the use
of ActiveX, which Firefox does not support.
