| cannot use TIP if IE is started with RunAs I'm running my IE under different user credentials using RunAs. But then the tip won't add any text into the addressbar. When I click "Insert" it just beeps. Also the context textbuttons (like www.) are not available. When I start the IE normally everything works as expected. Any ideas? |

| Re: cannot use TIP if IE is started with RunAs Maybe so anything triggered by IE, such as an activex control, or a popup, will run with a restricted user's rights? | Re: cannot use TIP if IE is started with RunAs I've got to go with Callahan on this one. If they teach "Run As" in the official Microsoft support classes (and having completed one yesterday, I can assure you they do), then it must be something that should be fully supported. It does save some time on the job! The big question is: does it happen for anyone else? I decided to answer it, myself. I created a normal user account (I run with admin privileges, myself). Both logins demonstrated problems using IE after executing as the other user. It seems that using the "pointing inserts text" setting allows the focus to be removed from IE somehow. In other words, logged in as myself, and running IE as my test user, when I tried to input in the address bar, the TIP would put my text into this message, which was the last window I'd had focus on before running IE. I suspect that the OP had no other input-receiving windows open, and that meant TIP switched focus to when input was not allowed (which would explain the beep). When I changed HWR input to make me tap to insert, I didn't have this problem. Hasn't something like this been discussed before? I'm getting deja vu. -- TCPW The Miniature Mage "Callahan" <ca_callahan@WHATZA_HEycomputer.org> wrote in message news:%23V9fQySEFHA.512@TK2MSFTNGP15.phx.gbl... > Maybe so anything triggered by IE, such as an activex control, > or a popup, will > run with a restricted user's rights? | Re: cannot use TIP if IE is started with RunAs Right! to browse the web you don't need much rights. To add some security I use this "Low-Rights" user. So anything running inside or started by the IE (scripts or ActiveX controls) also have restricted rights. So they can't access my files /documents nor can they access my email addressbook. And Run As is perfect for this. "Callahan" wrote: > Maybe so anything triggered by IE, such as an activex control, or a popup, will > run with a restricted user's rights? The text will be inserted into the input receiving control of that user TIP is running under. So it doesn't have to do with the TIP settings. My settings for the TIP are: -Show next to text -tapping the icon opens the panel -tapping insert inserts text -use Gestures > Both logins demonstrated problems using IE after executing as the > other user. If not using the Tip I don't experience any problems. Everything works as normal. Keyboard input works fine. It is just the TIP that behaves odd. TabTip.exe & TCServer.exe are normal processes and running under the account I login with ,not the restricted one. Maybe this is the problem. but can it be solved? don't think you can start them more than one time, do you? | Re: cannot use TIP if IE is started with RunAs That is probably the correct action - they only run one instance, and the RunAs account doesn't have access to them because your logon account already has them. -- Chris H. | Re: cannot use TIP if IE is started with RunAs I tried to run the two processes under the same user but it doesn't help at all. if you have two tabtips running the TIP goes completely nuts. It is flashing and seems to be toggling between the two instances. Also both of them have about 50% of CPU load. Maybe this is something that slipped through testing. Using RunAs is a recommend technique for admins. they will have this issue also, when performing administrative tasks on a tablet pc. Jan "Jeffrey W. | Re: cannot use TIP if IE is started with RunAs This sounds great! I will try this. Btw. You don't need a keyboard for this to work. At least not every time. RunAs has a parameter called /savecred if you specify it you will be only asked once for the password. Then it remembers it the next time. "Jeffrey W.
