| Re: Unable to receive packets on 801.11b w/WEP after SP2 I had not, so I went ahead and did a restart. No change - connected with excellent signal strenth sending packets but not receiving. Just to make sure it was not something else, I did go ahead and disable WEP on the router/AP and the Tablet was able to send and receive packets and connect to the Internet. | Re: Unable to receive packets on 801.11b w/WEP after SP2 If not positive am pretty certain that the router is running WEP. Reasons I say this is that: 1) the router is setup this way; 2) the PC's that are able to connect to/through router are all running WEP, and 3) in order to get connection to the network for the Tablet that can send but not receive packet that you have been helping me with, WEP, and the key, have to be entered... so I think WEP in is being used by the base station. Additionally, if I turn off WEP and change the config of the Tablet in question I can send and rreceive packets/ get to the Internet. Any other way to determine positively? WPA-PSK TKIP with passphrase, or, with certificate authentication? If your 802.11b router doesn't support WPA maybe there's a firmware upgrade available. Though, whether all your .11b-only (?) clients actually have WPA as an extra is the new problem then, of course... OTOH if you are not renewing the WEP key very often, with much traffic e.g. many clients, your network is not exactly secure anyway and you could go ahead and use an 'open' wlan but with mac filtering (for the legals wrt intrusion... :) Btw have you reinstalled the Intel 2100BG drivers after SP2? Which Linksys router is it? Do you have the option to try if WEP on your tablet would work with a different router? Or if it works over ad-hoc to another PC? (just to test if it's some strange router config problem) cheers, - Jan |

| Re: Unable to receive packets on 801.11b w/WEP after SP2 Just at a quick glance, your machine IP address and that of your router are the same. They shouldn't be. Give the machine an IP of something like 192.168.1.120. Your Gateway is correct, because that's the router. -- Chris H. | Re: Unable to receive packets on 801.11b w/WEP after SP2 Jan: Thank you for your post. In response: 1) unfortunately WPA is not an option; While the Linksys router, with the lateset firmware, will not support it I would be willing to upgrade it to an 802.11b/g, however, have someother devices on the 802.11b netowrk that do not seem to provide/support WPA -- so I am stuck, I beleive, trying to get WEP to work to have any encryption. 2) yes, I did intsall the Intreel driver after upgrading to SP2 3) Router is Linksys BEWFW11S4 VERSION2 running router firmware 1.45.10 and wrieless firmware 1.1.2 4) don't have handy a way to try the Tablet with another router with WEP enabled. However, if I turnoff WEP am able to receive packets/access the Internet 5) tried ad-hoc - can identify the device, however, cannot establish connectivity thanks "Jan Wagner" wrote: > GKF wrote: > > 1) thank you for the article citation -- will pull it up an rread it > > 2) had not changed the WEP key.
