Re: voice recognition

I've found voice recognition very good, Brian. You do need to train it,
however, and the more training the better it becomes. I'm just using the
built-in speech, with a cheapie headset voice-enabled microphone I bought
about four or five years ago but the M200 array works well, too.

The software ought to be exactly the same as in Office 2003 on
conventional systems. If you have access to a copy of Office, give it
a try.

From what I have heard, Microsoft's speech recognition handles
dictation noticeably better than Dragon does, but it is clumsier for
making corrections and changes.

Current array microphones are good but if you use a headset get a noise canceling model. They can take your accuracy up to ~98%.

RE: voice recognition

Brian,
I've used Word XP, Word 2003 Speech Recognition with GREAT sucess. Over 110
WPM with above 95% accuracy with only using the 10 minute introductory
training. YOU the speaker have to be consistent when dictating. I use SR for
letters and email in Outlook. I found reading through all the 6 training
sessions made the performance dwindle. I've run it on a Dell Inspiron 2.5Ghz
and 512RAM with WinXP Pro. Why buy dragon and spend the money, and besides
they/Companies are open armed about installing additional software on there
systems. Last note, we buy the 19.99 Plantronics headset and they work just
the same as the 9.99 mono headsets. I prefer have the MANUAL MUTE button.

Send me an email if you have questions. rlopez@blctrain.com
