Want Microsoft Official Course books on my TPC!

On the wish list:

The next time I go to an official MS technical course, I would
love to be able to receive a digital copy of the book, so that I
don't have to lug the giant paper copy around. Its starting to
be a common sense k:nd of thing, now, but the trainers had to
tell me no, when I asked.

I know they're trying to protect intellectual property, etc,
etc... but they should think about finding a way.

Perhaps they could put it into a MS Reader format.

Re: Want Microsoft Official Course books on my TPC!

You mean like the information available from TechNet:
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/default.mspx or certification information
here: http://www.microsoft.com/learning/default.asp or Tablet PC
development here: http://msdn.microsoft.com/mobility/t...c/default.aspx
? There are a lot of courses which use online "libraries" for their source
material, including the Microsoft Developer Network:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/ . MSDN also has a lot of streaming media to
assist in learning, including webcasts, MSDN TV, The .NET Show and .NET
Rocks!, including content to download for later viewing.

Re: Want Microsoft Official Course books on my TPC!

Gary: MS Reader format would be beautiful. I haven't played with
it extensively, but I seem to recall Reader would allow me to do
the same marking up of the text that I currently do with a pencil
(and probably do it better). I wish I could remember if notes
written into MS Reader were searchable.

Chris: My subject line was somewhat misleading. I'd like to dump
the paper book we're issued in the MS course and use the TPC to
follow along with the instructor, do the labs, take notes, etc,
without additional expense to me and/or my department. Perhaps I
overlooked it, but I couldn't find anything in your links about
obtaining those specific books, and I expect I still couldn't
have what I want, if I found it, not without extra dough. Glad
you're still speaking to me, thanks (if you don't know what
that's about, don't go back and look for it, ok?)!

When I mentioned this desire elsewhere on the net, some folks
felt that Microsoft's intellectual property would end up being
distributed illegally all over the place. I, of course, really
appreciated the vote of confidence :\ . Anyway, I just figured
that what I want is in line with what a TPC is all about. Maybe
one day, but it would have been so cool to do it today, and
tomorrow, and the rest of the week, for that matter! I just hope
MS will think about it.

Yes, it was suggested that I scan it in, myself. That book is
THICK; I told him by the time I finished, I'd be in the
"Implementing <whatever they end up calling Longhorn>" class in
2008 :D

Re: Want Microsoft Official Course books on my TPC!

Most courses, including Microsoft's have course books and a whole lot of
them are available from online places like http://safaribooksonline.com/ or
http://www.microsoft.com/learning/Books/ for online/offline reading or even
https://www.microsoftelearning.com/home.aspx which has an Offline Player.
