| Tablet stuck in a type of safe mode. After showing someone how to go into Safe mode using MSCONFIG. My tablet seems to have got stuck in a restricted mode. It doesn't say it's in safe mode (ie where it states safe mode around the edge of the screen.) But it only starts with a vertical screen, has limited services started, with no option to start them, there are no devices AT ALL in device manager, can't use a pen etc. It has the Windows Classic style Start button and systray, but it loads Bluetooth and has connected to the internet using ethernet. (but I can't browse other networked machines) I can start in the real safe mode again pressing F8, but it doesn't seem to be able to get back to my normal profile. I've tried a System restore from both safe and normal but there are no restore points .. Ever. I tried MSConfig again and thestartup and bootini and other settings are all set to normal. I tried reinstalling SP2.. but to no avail. I was going to try and uninstall SP2 and try installing again. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Cheers JR |

| Re: Tablet stuck in a type of safe mode. JR, as silly as this seems, turn the machine off, unplug it from the power unit, then remove the battery. Leave everything unplugged and powerless for about 10 minutes, then put the battery in, then connected the power cord and start the machine. -- Chris H. | Re: Tablet stuck in a type of safe mode. Thanks for your quick response Chris.. but alas no luck. It really looks like it's stuck in a safe-boot or other incomplete boot sequence. I'll try and uninstall SP2 with the hope that when I reinstall it the system will right itself. | Re: Tablet stuck in a type of safe mode. See if anything in this Knowledge Base article jogs a thought about the process: http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;318018 I know it isn't directly connected, but perhaps . . . You might also see this KB article and see if you can invoke a clean boot, if you can change the settings: http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;316434 -- Chris H.
