Anyway for students to get tablet PCs at an affordable price?

Seems like Tablets are so expensive right now that unless you got a rich mom
and pop or somehow get lucky and win that Tablet PC a day thing from
microsoft (last year and the year before) - there's really no way to get a
tablet at an affordable price is there?

*anyone receive a free one happen to be in here? - they gave one a day rite?*

Prices seem to be coming down as newer products are introduced. You might
want to check out the comparison charts on Tablet PC MVP Terri Stratton's
web site - http://thetabletpc.net - and take a look at the new Averatec.

Re: Anyway for students to get tablet PCs at an affordable price?

I found a NEC VestaLite at pcconnections at 800 - is that a good tablet?

the annoying thing is - theyre so few users that review, makes one wary. I
know my way around desktops - but laptops and tablets are just.... so
difficult to judge and review.

Re: Anyway for students to get tablet PCs at an affordable price?

The NEC products are "Versa LitePad" but you could check what is included
with it, which CPU it is running, the amount of RAM, etc., before plunking
down your money. Make sure it includes the recovery CD/DVD software, too.
Many places sell "refurbished" models, but don't include the required
software which is supposed to be shipped by the OEM with the product.

It is a nice, light Tablet PC although some of the features normally found
in others - even similar slate models - are eliminated in favor of thinness.
8-) Again, check Terri's comparison charts for each one, and see what suits
your usage.

Re: Anyway for students to get tablet PCs at an affordable price?

I won my first tablet through a OneNote giveaway. I've since sold it on eBay
and have a newer Toshiba M200. For me, gadgets make me happy so I'm willing
to pay a premium for them (and cut spending on stuff I think is more
useless, like clothes). I'm afraid the prices won't come down much. You can
look into older generation tablets or something like the Averatec, which is
around $1300.

Re: Anyway for students to get tablet PCs at an affordable price?

There always seem to be quite a few good tablets around on Ebay.

If you really have your heart set on a new one though look at Averatec. They
seem to have got the price just right, to the point that in the US at least
you can get their hardware in Best Buy stores now. I know PC World in UK are
carrying Averatec notebooks, but not tablets just yet.

Good luck in your hunt
