Can't launch Input Panel

I've noticed this question a few times but none of the suggested fixes seem
to work...
I have a Toshiba Portege M200 running XP Tablet Edition with SP2.
I have the Input Panel Icon on the taskbar but when I press it nothing
happens.
I've tried registering the two dlls in the Ink directory - to no avail.
Any other thoughts? This is driving me nuts!

The TIP process seems to 'hang' occasionally. You can try Ctrl-Alt-Del,
and select and end the tabtip.exe from the processes list. When you
click on the Input Panel icon after this, the TIP should show up. It's
not a permanent solution to the problem, though...

cheers,
- Jan

Jan

Nice try but no success - I removed tabtip.exe from the running processes
and clicked the Input Panel icon but still get no response. My guess is that
this is a driver issue - but what driver??!

Too bad it didn't work...

About the only (AFAIK) TIP related driver that you can install is the
Wacom tablet enhanced driver.

Event Viewer isn't showing anything suspicious? Icon tray, Tablet and
pen settings tool works? Control Panel, Regional & language options,
Languages, Details, the list does contain multiple entries under
Advanced text services? And you didn't install Tablet 2005 beta or some
..net framework sdk betas earlier?

If everything looks "ok" and it is still possible to use System Restore
to revert back to pre-SP2 state, maybe try doing that. If the old TIP
works there, my best guess would be to uninstall any MS betas, update
the Wacom driver, install tablet pc 2005 recoginzer pack (works in xp
sp1 too), and pull all other updates from Windows Update. Then
disable/unload any antivirus progs and reinstall SP2 (best from CD, or
the ~280mb 'multiple computer deployment' chunk from
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/pro.../winxpsp2.mspx
in case you want to reinstall SP2 again later).

Maybe someone has further suggestions?

Re: Can't launch Input Panel

Jan

I've checked all of your suggestions and all looks OK. I've also followed
Chris's suggestion (see the duplicate thread I managed to start) and
installed the Wacom Enhanced Pen Driver to no effect.

I think I'm going to have to uninstall SP2 and see if it works under that...

Thanks for all your suggestions

Dave
