Question about Acer C302XMI

Ok guys im due to pick up my new tablet on saturday and b4 I get it and set
it up i would like to know of any things I might have to do to it.
Ive seen things posted about the Bios and the .NET updates and other things.
How would I go about installing these and are there any other updates that I
should install?
The C302 model comes with SP2 installed.
Thanks
Tom

Re: Question about Acer C302XMI

Congratulations! Tom, if it were my new machine (and assuming you're
networked) I would first keep it offline and not connected to the Internet
while installing your favorite anti-virus program, activating the built-in
firewall and making sure it runs properly in the present configuration.

Only after setting it up that way, doing the pen calibrations and reading
through the tutorial sections and getting comfortable with your new friend
would I venture even to Windows Update. There, you can update will all the
current fixes with assurance that what you presently have is fully
functional.

If the machine comes with XP SP2 and the Tablet PC Edition 2005 already
installed, it should already have .NET 1.1 installed, but you can check that
in Control Panel/Add or Remove Programs where you should find the listing
"Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1". If it isn't listed exactly as that,
including the 1.1 mention, only then would you need to update.

Re: Question about Acer C302XMI

Anti-virus software is a user choice, of course, but I've used AVG (free
edition) from Grisoft. You can find more information here:
http://www.grisoft.com/us/us_dwnl7.php What I like about it is they're
really on top of the updates (which you can get automatically within the
program settings), but also that it simply is not as invasive as Norton
(Symantec) programs. If you tell AVG to shut down, it does. 8-) I've
probably run it for about five years now on all our systems in our home (8
or 9 computers at last count).

Re: Question about Acer C302XMI

Hope you enjoy it. I know quite a few people who have run it for years, and
quite successfully. The key to safe/secure computing, though, is to know
what sites you're visiting in your browser, and question attachments to
questions - even from close friends - if you're not expecting them, before
opening. The XP SP2 security measures change behavior in a lot of ways to
help us, including not showing graphics within emails from people who aren't
in our address books (both Outlook and Outlook Express). Yet security is
very dependent upon user awareness.

Re: Question about Acer C302XMI

Congratulations! Did it come with Windows XP SP2 and the Tablet PC Edition
2005 installed? For the pen drivers, go to Wacom's web site:
http://www.wacom.com/tabletpc/index.cfm .

But I wouldn't limit your driver update to just for the pen. Make sure
you're current from Acer's web site, too.

Re: Question about Acer C302XMI

Dear Chris, if I understand you well, you recommend me to install the
new WACOM drivers over my C-110-CTi with WinXP for TabletPC with SP2
already installed, isn't it?

Re: Question about Acer C302XMI

I would, Juan. Unless you've installed the 4.82-9a drivers since installing
XP SP2 and the Tablet PC Edition 2005, I would do a fresh install of them.
Wacom released that set on December 29 last year, after XP SP2 came out.
They have solved some issues for people.

That task bar thig that is normally along the left of the My Doc folder and

Re: Question about Acer C302XMI

The easiest way to check your BIOS is to open Help and Support, put in
(without the quotes) "get information about your computer" in the Search
line and then use that first result actions in the right pane. The first
line, "View general system information about this computer" will generate
the System Model, BIOS Version, OS version, RAM, Processor, general
information, and Local Disk information.

I believe (without checking again this morning) that 1.60 is the most
current BIOS version for the M200.
