| Cannot RE-size TABLET INPUT PANEL The TIP on a Gateway M275LS cannot be resized. It fills the full width of the screen. There is no "HANDLE" to use to resize it. Worked w/3 Gateway Techs. to no avail. Any idea how to fix? Thanks |

| Re: Cannot RE-size TABLET INPUT PANEL Are you using the Windows XP SP2 and Tablet PC Edition 2005? If so, the panel in Undock mode, will be smaller and located near any recognized text input area when you have the pen near the screen and the little "floating" Tablet Input Panel Access icon showing. -- Chris H. | Re: Cannot RE-size TABLET INPUT PANEL Chris H. I am not yet using XP SP2. This is the OEM version that shipped with the Tablet. I did see the recommendation from Jeff Van West to install it. I will do that but the question is how to resize with the original version or is it a bug. It was working but suddenly changed, so the TIP cannot be re-sized. This machine has InocuLate-It and WEB Root installed. Do they have to be uninstalled when I put SP2 on the system? Thanks for your prompt response! >-----Original Message----- >Are you using the Windows XP SP2 and Tablet PC Edition 2005? | Re: Cannot RE-size TABLET INPUT PANEL You cannot resize the original, especially in the Dock mode. The Tablet PC Edition 2005 is much improved, including in recognition and context input. I would suggest you make a sweep of your system with your anti-virus program (and latest definitions), and use some of the free malware detection programs (check www.aumha.org/secure.htm for information), then either uninstall or remove your AV program from start-up before installing. There is very good information about how to prepare before installing XP SP2 in MVP Charlie Russel's Expert Zone article here: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/u...nstallsp2.mspx Remember, too, that most Tablet PC manufacturers have updated their model-specific drivers for Service Pack 2 on the Windows XP Pro operating system. It is a good idea to visit the appropriate web site and follow their instructions for the updates. -- Chris H. | Re: Cannot RE-size TABLET INPUT PANEL Chris: SP2 is now successfully installed. We cannot set an UNDOCK indicator and as such the TIP keyboard cannot be moved or resized. I have a .doc document which I will send to you at your e-mail address so you can better visualize what is happening. I am trying to achieve what I see on Jeff Van West's site http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/u...etpc/expert/va nwest_newtip.mspx Is taht possible or is what he is discussing not yet available? This seems like a simple item to resolve, but to date we have not been able to make it happen. | Re: Cannot RE-size TABLET INPUT PANEL The Undock mode needs to be set in the Tablet Input Panel Options (the O on the right of the panel), however once that's set if you launch the TIP with a Gesture, it reverts to one of the Dock options. Perhaps that's where it is tripping up. If the TIP is set to Undock, the Tablet Access (floating TIP) icon will appear onscreen only when the cursor is in a text input area AND you have the pen within 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch of the screen so the digitizer recognizes its presence. -- Chris H. | Re: Cannot RE-size TABLET INPUT PANEL Hi Conley, This is Jeff Van West writing and I'm happy to try and help. Sorry I didn't see your post come by sooner. I'm only on this board about once a week. Chris is correct that tablet Input Panel (TIP) in SP2 only appears undocked when activated by the floating TIP icon. This requires that you have a program that will invoke the floating TIP icon, that your pen is near the screen, and that the cursor is in a place that will take text input. Unless all three of these criteria are met you can't get a floating icon and open the TIP undocked. (Don't ask me why the Undock command even exists on the SP2 TIP opens because all it does is close the docked TIP.) You can make the height writing area of the TIP (docked or not) taller or shorter from the TIP options (Click the little gear symbol) -> Writing Pad -> Amount of space between writing lines. You can make the width of the writing area of the floating TIP longer or shorter by opening the floating (undocked) TIP (See criteria above), switching to the keyboard pad and then resizing the keyboard. The keyboard is the only pad that has a resize "tab" to drag but it applies to entire floating TIP. The resize tab is in the lower right of the keyboard. Hope that helps. | Re: Cannot RE-size TABLET INPUT PANEL Hi Conley, Jeff Van West here. Let me see if I can answer your question. Chris is correct in saying that the SP2 TIP has no undock mode like SP1 did. Instead, if you place your cursor in a spot that accepts text input (a place where you could type something) and you bring your pen near the screen, the floating TIP icon appears. Tap the icon and you get the floating (undocked) TIP. As soon as you are done using the TIP in disappears. Some applications can't invoke the TIP this way, so for those apps you must use the Docked TIP. Don't ask me why there is still a "undock" option on the TIP in SP2 since undocking the TIP when docked is functionally the same as just closing it. You can resize the TIP, but the height control and the width control are in different places. To change the height of the writing area on the TIP (both floating and docked), tap the tools and options icon (gray gear) and choose Options. Tap the Writing Pad tab and change the setting for amount of space between writing lines. To change the width of the TIP (floating only), invoke the floating TIP by placing your cursor in a program that accepts text and tapping the floating TIP icon with your pen. Next, switch to the TIP's on-screen keyboard. In the lower right of the keyboard (and only the keyboard) is a tab to resize the keyboard, and subsequently the width of the TIP. The new TIP size will remain even when you switch back to writing pad. Hope that helps Jeff "CONLEY" <anonymous@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:256301c4f977$efcd9a70$a501280a@phx.gbl... > Chris: > > SP2 is now successfully installed.
