Toshiba M200 Input panel problem, landscape and portrait

I have just got a Toshiba Portege M200 Tablet PC. The tablet PC input
panel isn't working properly. A colleague who has an identical machine
set up identically has exactly the same problem.

The problem happens with the screen in portrait orientation. If I have
the Tablet Input Panel undocked, and I'm using, say, Word or Onenote,
when I write in the panel no handwriting appears, except maybe when I
lift the pen. Consequently I can't write properly, because I can't see
what I'm writing. (Typed text, nevertheless, continues to appear
beneath the writing area.) If I dock the input pad at the top or
bottom of the screen, everything is OK. As I write, handwriting
appears, exactly as if I was using a normal pen.

If I persist with the panel undocked, after about 20 inputs of text
the writing pad sometimes suddenly starts behaving properly. When this
happens, the input panel doesn't work properly when docked at the top
or bottom of the screen.

With the screen in primary landscape orientation, everything is fine.
However, with the screen in secondary landscape orientation (i.e.
upside down), the same problem happens.

The computer has Windows XP Tablet PC Edition 2005 Version 2002 SP2.
It has 768MB of RAM. The Input Panel is version 1.7.2600.2180.

All suggestions gratefully received.

Thanks

Allan

Re: Toshiba M200 Input panel problem, landscape and portrait

Allan, if this machine has just recently been updated to XP SP2 and the
Tablet PC Edition 2005, I would take a look at updating the drivers from the
Toshiba web site. There are several which are XP2-specific, released since
Microsoft released the update. On the Toshiba site, the driver selection
pane allows you to sort to XP SP2 drivers so you can get the new ones.

Additionally, I would make sure to download and install the 4.82-9a Wacom
driver from http://www.wacom.com/tabletpc/driver.cfm . This was just
released by Wacom on December 29.
