| Motion M1300 won't shut off Has anyone had this problem? My tablet works fine except the only way to turn it off is by doing a hard shut down with the power button. It just started doing this. I've had the unit for about 14 months. When I select to turn off, the tablet goes through the normal cycle of shutting down and then just before it should turn off....the tablet either restarts or freezes on a blue screen with an error message that doesn't seem to help. I called Motion support and although we tried many different things for over an hour....nothing worked. Any ideas? -- DLR |

| Re: Motion M1300 won't shut off Without knowing what they had you try, it is only a shot in the dark, but usually a balking at shutdown means a device is not unloading. You might go into Control Panel/Administrative Tools/Event Viewer and tap the Application in the left pane. This will reveal events in the right pane, so you can look for either yellow triangles with black exclamation points or red circles containing white X's. Those are indicators of errors, and the listing may be right-clicked with a selection of Properties to reveal a portion of the error. You may need to check Motion's web site for the latest drivers, especially if you're running Windows XP SP2 and the Tablet PC Edition 2005. Also, besides what Frank has mentioned in his link, you might (once the system is shut down) unplug the a/c adapter, then turn the unit over and remove the battery. Let it sit out for maybe five minutes, then put it back in and reconnect the power. Sometimes they just need to "reset." -- Chris H. | Re: Motion M1300 won't shut off Frank / Chris, Thanks for your help and suggestions. Unfortunately, many of which I have done or Motion Support has talked me through. I have tried some of the other suggestions without any luck. I have every upgrade/update available for Motion 1300 and Windows XP installed. I have reinstalled the bios and reset to default. I also replaced the memory cards. However, I cannot use the restore because the issue prevents me from doing so. Yet everything still is running fine. I realize I could just start over but, I will loose too much in the process. I guess I will just keep pluggin' along until the tablet crashes or I stumble across the right fix. Thanks again. | Re: Motion M1300 won't shut off Hi, DLR - if you haven't already tried this, right click My Computer / Properties / Advanced / Start up and Recovery section / Settings button / and uncheck "Automatically Restart" under System Failure That might give you enough of a clue as to what's causing the problem. Although the resulting blue screen (if there is one) may not make much sense, often there's a line towards the bottom that will tell you what file the error is in. Once you have that, it makes troubleshooting a bit easier. Since you spoke to Motion support, I'd think that you've already done this. If you haven't done it, and you can post that line here, we may be able to help more. It could be something like win32.sys, or something .dll. When you checked under Administrative Tools / Event Viewer / system, what errors showed? When you double click the error, you'll sometimes find a link with additional information. In the meantime, I hope you've backed up your critical data. It may be a pain to rebuild it when you have to, but it would be a lot tougher without your existing data. -- Terri Stratton Editor / Owner http://thetabletpc.net http://themediacenterpc.net Subscribe to our RSS Feeds for the latest news Microsoft Windows MVP / Tablet PC "DLR" <Radcliff1@comcast.net> wrote in message news:f_-dnQRVrs57AU3cRVn-1A@comcast.com... > Frank / Chris, > > Thanks for your help and suggestions. | Re: Motion M1300 won't shut off Did you try the trick of removing the battery and the a/c power? Leave it out at least five minutes, perhaps even 30 minutes. Then put the battery back in, followed by the power adapter. -- Chris H.
