Computer Freezing

I downloaded a few software programs on my computer today. And one must have
done something. Here is what is happening. When I click on my computer it
just freezes and doesn't respond. Also when I click on Run and then Browse
it freezes. The only noticeable thing is that when I shut down it always
says: DLACTRLW.EXE not responding.
Any solutions?

Thanks,
Del Dobbs

Now I cannot even shut down my computer. I have tried holding the on-off

thanks for any help.

Interesting that it won't even let the power button override anythign when
held down that long. Failing all else you can remove the battery and unplug
the AC power. Once that happens, if you have system restore enabled, you can
try a restore point. May also just be able to boot into safe mode (hit F8 a
few times towards the end of the power on self tests but before the windows
splash screen shows up) and see if you can get to add/remove and uninstall
what you just loaded.

Re: Computer Freezing

Thanks, I was able to take battery out and restart. Froze again. I think
it has something to do with Roxio/Sonic software. I don't know.

Re: Computer Freezing

I'm guessing that the DLACTRLW.EXE is causing a hardware issue with your CD
drive. Try rebooting with a blank CD/DVD in your optical drive.

You need to get to a safe boot, so that you can roll back the driver that
came with that software.
