Palm Desktop will not load on Tablet PC OS

The Palm Desktop software loads fine on standard OS, including various SP's,
but will not load on XP Tablet OS. Using the same unit in both cases. Any
ideas?
The software seems to install OK, but hangs up when it tries to clean up and
exit.

Re: Palm Desktop will not load on Tablet PC OS

Tablet PCs run Windows XP Pro as the operating system, so it may be
something like your anti-virus software hanging it up. Make sure everything
is shut down before you attempt the installation.

Re: Palm Desktop will not load on Tablet PC OS

That occurred to me as well, and so I tried loading the Palm software after a
fresh OS install on the unit with no applications loaded (including AV, as
you noted). So, I don't think anything is interfering. I ran into a similar
issue once where the XP-Tablet acted differently than XP-Pro, and it had to
do with the fact that XP-Tablet turns on a variety of "Accesibility" options
by default. This is done, apparently, to aid in interfacing to the pen input
device. Don't know if this is the source on this issue, or not. Any
suggestions on how to eliminate all of the Accessibility options that
XP-Tablet turns on?

Re: Palm Desktop will not load on Tablet PC OS

I've never seen any accessibility options turned on for a Tablet PC at all.
Take a look in Control Panel/Accessibility. If they're turned on there,
something strange is going on. You can very easily remove check marks from
all the boxes (if any) to turn them off. The only thing installed I've seen
is on the General tab in the two boxes under Notification.

I'd also check with the Palm software folks. I've come across a few
applications that refused to install on the tablet version of XP despite XP
being a "superset" of XP Pro. So things worked fine on XP Pro and refused to
on the tablet.

These examples are rare, but they *do* exist. Might want to see if Palm is
aware of any known issues and have workarounds already.
