unable to use touchpad or keyboard

when I first boot up I am able to use the touch pad & keyboard. but after a
few minutes it freezes (or something) then I am only able to use the pen! Is
there anyone who can tell me how I can fix this issue?

Which type/model of computer?
Which OS?

OS is XP. Gateway M275 Any help would be awesome as this glitch is really
affecting my ability to work!
