| How do u disable tour & change themes on WinXP Tablet PC Edition We have Windows XP Tablet PC edition version 2002 Service Pack 1 on fujistu tablet pc being deployed on 50 machines. we want to do the following - not have the Windows Tour AND Tablet PC tour show up for users when they first log in. currently they get it the 1st 3 times. We want this applied to all users - change the Theme from the default for all users - have a different power scheme than the default for all users. IGS (IBM Global Services) is doing our build, they say there is no way to change these things. We have gone to the Microsoft support web site and could not find any info on the above issues? Does anybody have an info on how do get these done. I am assuming it is going to be registry settings. again we want to creat a default profile to apply to all our tablets |

| Re: How do u disable tour & change themes on WinXP Tablet PC Edition Not sure why you're not deploying Service Pack 2, but I'd highly recommend you do so. The security alone is worth the upgrade, and the improvment in the Tablet Input Panel is much better. It would seem that this might save a lot of time as each Tablet will need to be updated separately to SP2. As for the theme, XP doesn't have a lot of theme options, but you can customize them to some extent using display options. This should be done on the sysprep image before deployment. As for the tutorial, if it were also run on and the image created after, not sure it would be on the individual machines. If others know differently, I'm sure they'll post. -- Terri Stratton Editor / Owner http://thetabletpc.net http://themediacenterpc.net Microsoft Windows MVP / Tablet PC "colin_lyse" <cl@cl.com> wrote in message news:Xns95B7B57B83D6Dtttt@140.99.99.130... > We have Windows XP Tablet PC edition version 2002 Service Pack 1 on > fujistu > tablet pc being deployed on 50 machines. > > we want to do the following > > - not have the Windows Tour AND Tablet PC tour show up for users when they > first log in. currently they get it the 1st 3 times. | Re: How do u disable tour & change themes on WinXP Tablet PC Edition Colin, sounds like you need to use a deployment scheme as described in regular sysprep: http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;302577 however, since the Tablet PCs I would venture are arriving with the operating system and Tablet PC Edition already installed, you may be into the area of group polices. Since this is a large deployment via Fujitsu, I would contact them to make sure the units are shipped with Windows XP SP2 and the Tablet PC Edition 2005 already installed, instead of needing to update all 50 machines. Fujitsu may also be able to assist in the blanket settings you're interested in. -- Chris H. Currently every machine gives the both tours to our users, and they have to mauanlly change power settings. Our users are not computer savy and we don't want them going into the control panel and changing things. IGS is charging use $37,000 to deploy these and they told us there is no way to disable the tours, change the themese, or to have a deafult power scheme like we want. We got some XP registry settings from MS but they either did not work or were fro current user only not local machine Fujistu told us they would be more than glad to support our hardware, but for OS settings and changes we have to go to Microsoft. |

| Re: How do u disable tour & change themes on WinXP Tablet PC Edition Unfortunately, I don't have the experience nor knowledge to delve into exactly what you want. I am just a volunteer user who supports other uses, but I dug out this information for you: http://www.microsoft.com/technet/pro.../sitpcdep.mspx I would, however, highly recommend deploying Windows XP SP2 and the Tablet PC Edition 2005 from the beginning as outlined in this TechNet article: http://www.microsoft.com/technet/pro.../tpcdploy.mspx -- Chris H. | Re: How do u disable tour & change themes on WinXP Tablet PC Edition Not really and expert here myself, but if these are all essentially identical machines, can't you set one up and use Ghost to create an image with your requirements and load the other machines from that? I would third, or is it fourth now, the suggestion to do SP2/2005 up front. It only enhances the user experience and significantly improves the security. -- Sven, MS-MVP Mobile Devices "Chris H." <winxpnews********.com> wrote in message news:Ocfat3G3EHA.2568@TK2MSFTNGP11.phx.gbl... > Unfortunately, I don't have the experience nor knowledge to delve into > exactly what you want. | Re: How do u disable tour & change themes on WinXP Tablet PC Edition That would work if they have a volume licensing agreement and access to the proper files. Sounds like the new Tablet PCs are from the OEM, so the OS and Tablet PC Edition would already be installed with the individual machine product keys - unless other arrangements with the OEM could be made. -- Chris H.
