| 2005 input panel terrible I don't understand why Microsoft had to go and mess up the input panel iwith SP2. It's so bad I had to uninstall SP2. Several issues thane with it Kwick keys disappear when writing. I've been accustomed to writing, then pressing enter to paste the text to a field and include a carriage return for advancing to the next data field. UP and Down Arrow keys are gone l can't place the TIP where ++I++ want it ! l can't have two input areas, 'Undocked' in SP2 does +not+ work on my Avertec. Attempting to reinstall tablet drivers under SP2 causes BSOD! There's probably more warts, but I didn't discover them. ..TK |

| RE: 2005 input panel terrible I discovered one way to get the kwick keys back permenantly, and this has to do with one of the options. Under options click character pad, and then under that, in size of writing spaces, move the cursor to closer to the minimum, and you'll find that the Kwick keys come back. Good luck, RM "tkiehl" wrote: > I don't understand why Microsoft had to go and mess up the input panel iwith > SP2. > > It's so bad I had to uninstall SP2. > > Several issues thane with it > > Kwick keys disappear when writing. > I've been accustomed to writing, then pressing enter to paste the text to a > field and include a carriage return for advancing to the next data field. > UP and Down Arrow keys are gone > > l can't place the TIP where ++I++ want it ! > > l can't have two input areas, > > 'Undocked' in SP2 does +not+ work on my Avertec. > Attempting to reinstall tablet drivers under SP2 causes BSOD! > > There's probably more warts, but I didn't discover them. > > .TK > > > > > |

| Re: 2005 input panel terrible Chris, I'm afraid you don't understand... With delay set, yes it will paste the text, but only after the delay and kwick keys are not visible unitl delay has ended. With the old pad, I could click the enter key and immediately paste the text along with the carriage return appended. Now that functionality is gone (yes you can click the past button but alas no carriage return, or tab for that matter). With the missing (up-down) arrow keys, yes I think you've been snookered by 2005 version too long. Yes you could have two lines of input... yery handy for entering lots of text, almost continuous input by writing in one entry cell then the other then back to the first an so on. With the Undock, I have to click yet another elusive +thing+ that pops up when it's good and ready to pop up. I want my input panel there +all the time+. (still can't click it!) Oh, and where's the "Send as Ink" in SP2? Somebody really lobotomized the input pael in SP2. While taking away good functionality, the only thing it gives you additionally is the character by character input (for lamers) and word lookup (again for lamers). Really unhappy with the new SP2 input panel. There should be some way to choose which one you want (or reinstall the old one in SP2). Tom "Chris H." wrote: > Discussion below. | Re: 2005 input panel terrible Microsoft decided, based on the complaints regarding the initial Tablet Input Panel, to make changes to the functionality users requested. Now, I believe, the process is to figure out a combination of the two. 8-) As for the TIP behavior, set the Options to no timed insert, and simply use the Insert button. I agree the Enter button, along with others seems to be backwards in operation. It takes a little different mindset to remember to tap the Enter button AFTER using Insert for text entry. But in reality, we complete a sentence and then hit the Enter key twice when we're typing. Where are you missing "send as Ink?" Programs like Windows Journal, OneNote and even Word 2003 are Ink enabled, without the Tablet Input Panel. You can even do emails in Ink with Outlook 2003. -- Chris H. | RE: 2005 input panel terrible Regarding the input panel, after downloading sp2, the dictation portion of the input panel follows my stylus around the desktop. It used to be "docked" on top of the input panel and wrote as you spoke. Now it follows you around the document, you can't see what it is writing, and you don't have the opporunity to edit it before inserting. Has anyone else had this problem? Thanks! | Re: 2005 input panel terrible Could you explain more, Debbie? When you have the Tablet Input Panel in Undock position with Tablet PC Edition 2005, there is a TIP Access icon (floating icon) which will appear when you have the cursor within about 3/4 of an inch of the screen AND are in a text input area. -- Chris H. | Re: 2005 input panel terrible I understand the floating icon. That is not what I am talking about...at least I don't think so. When the TIP is docked, and I try to use the dictation feature, a very small "speech bubble" follows my stylus around the screen. Before SP2, the speech component was docked along with the other three input features: keyboard, character pad, and writing pad. The dication "pad" was at the top of the other three. As I spoke, I could watch the words being typed, and I could also see the volume detector/monitor. Now all I see is the volume detector in a very small speech bubble. The words don't appear in an editable manner. They are automatically inserted into the document. I have to edit them in the document. It also seems slower. The dictation component was much better before I downloaded SP2. Is there anyway to get it reattaced to the TIP? "Chris H." wrote: > Could you explain more, Debbie? | Re: 2005 input panel terrible Depends on the settings you're using, Debbie. Take a look in the Tablet Input Panel/Options, and also remember you need to train the speech unit in Control Panel/Speech. You need to make sure you don't have Speech "on" all the time, too. | Re: 2005 input panel terrible Chris, I've been to Options, and I've done most of the voice training passages. I don't have Speech "on" all the time. I am using Speech mostly for emails and other short entries into Word, Excel, PowePoint, etc. I am using the built-in Speech program. I am not necessarily having a problem with it not recognizing my voice. It seems to have pretty good accuracy. However, before I downloaded SP2, I was able to see the words as I spoke them and then insert. Now, like I said before, all I see are the sound detectors (whatever they are called) in a tiny speech bubble that follows my stylus around. It is very irritating. Does that make sense? Thanks!
