Boot from an external cdrom drive on a toshiba 3500 tablet pc orm200

Hi all. I know I've seen some posts in here on booting from an external
cdrom drive on a Toshiba 3500, but I can't seem to find much when I
search, so I'm asking the question again. How do I boot from an
external cdrom drive on a Toshiba 3500 tablet? I will need to buy
whichever drive works, so if you can suggest one it would be much
appreciated. I have the Toshiba factory restore disks for the tablet,
so I'm not interested in requiring a floppy drive. I have been looking
at the Toshiba m200 tablet, and I'm considering getting one to replace
my 3500 because it has some more features that the 3500 such as a dock
bay, more memory on the video card, etc. Are they easier to figure out
how to boot from cdrom on? Any information is appreciated. TIA!

Toshiba has two drives - #1 normal DVD/CD #2 bootable CD - when you order
make sure it says bootable. But if you are just trying to get OS
installed - then try this...

http://luds.co.uk/m200/ <-- this also works for ANY PXE capable laptop,
Tablet, etc.

Hi Kerry, and thanks for the reply. I appreciate the help. One of the
things I look for in technology is ease of use. I understand that it is
not mission impossible to reload my tablet pc. It just seems like there
is no solution which makes it very easy for my situation. Someone had
mentioned drive imaging software which is a good idea, but I have high
aspirations and limited room on my hd. I have a 40gb drive and the
reason I wanted to reload my tablet is so I could repartition the drive
and dual boot xp and linux on it. I would like to try a version of
linux os (lycoris) I found made especially for a tablet PC. I have
little concern for compatibility with the lycoris OS because my model
tablet PC was sold with lycoris preloaded on it from certain retailers a
while back. I also have certain large online games which require
several GB of room (like There ans Second Life) on the windows partition
that I like to play on the tablet PC when I travel. There are other
large games (Neverwinter Nights) which I would like to play on the linux
partition. As you can see, fitting all of that plus a partition for
an image backup is difficult on the existing hd. I will probably end up
just getting a Toshiba M200 with a larger drive to accommodate all of
this. I guess I just have a general dissatisfaction with the lack of
ease of use with tablets when it comes to occasional tasks like
reloading the PC and such. It seems like there should be an easier
way. Thanks again for your help.

If you have (or wish to purchase) at least a 128MB USB flash drive, you can
download a version of Knoppix that fits entirely on the flash card and can
be started from Windows by running the "gemu-win.bat" file from the unzipped
package available at: http://www.metropipe.net/ProductsPVPM.shtml

The version is free and provides an easy way to run Linux on any machine
that has an available USB port.
