| software that doesn't work on a tablet that does on a desktop why? I stumbled upon some software that works flawlessly on a desktop running xp pro that just simply locks everything down on my tablet and I'm wondering if anyone can tell me why. The applications are designed to prevent spyware from ever installing onto your system, they are called "spywareblaster" and "spywareguard". When I installed these programs onto my tablet, everything seemed ok until I got to the desktop and everything that supposed to load up during that time started loading :) sheesh I mean all kinds of error boxes came up asking me to send MS a report, but they all came up in the same blasted place (on top of one another) and I don't know what the heck they said. It got to the point that everything on the desktop was froze except the ability to restart the system (thank God for that). These same apps work very well on my desktop as previously mentioned....so well in fact that I wanted to install them onto my tablet. The only errors I could come up with (not specific errors cause it was to blamed fast) had to do with apoint.exe and drwtsn.exe. This obviously has something to do with the tablet pc edition wouldn't you all think? since it works on the desktop running xp pro? Thanks for any input. |

| Re: software that doesn't work on a tablet that does on a desktop why? Tablet PCs run Windows XP Pro as the operating system, Lonnie, with the Tablet PC Edition superset on top. If you're seeing Dr. Watson screens pop up, that is the good Doctor capturing error messages. Apoint.exe is usually related to the Alps pointing-device driver, i.e., your touchpad. I would suggest you reinstall those drivers and see how it goes. It may be an overly aggressive spyware program has determined the driver in C:\Program Files\Apoint2K is "spyware" and either quarantined it or removed it. -- Chris H. | Re: software that doesn't work on a tablet that does on a desktop why? Hi, Lonnie, It doesn't solve your problem, but I routinely use Spywareblaster on all my machines and routinely recommend it. It's one of the best program out there to stop spyware from being installed and the fact that it's free makes it even better. I'm not familiar with the other program. Have you checked your drivers to see if there are any updates available. You don't say which Tablet PC you have, but you might want to check the manufacturer's website for updates. | Re: software that doesn't work on a tablet that does on a desktop The thing about it is Chris is that all I have to do is unintall the programs and everything is right back to normal. Those programs Dr. Watson and the apoint.exe files are not removed uninstalled or nothing like that. I got into the event viewer and saw that they were faulting upon load up. Obviously they are causing some problems with the spyware stuff.....man I do wish I could get spywareblaster to work on my tablet, it does a real good job keeping stuff off your system. Any other ideas as to how to get this to work? Reinstalling the drivers doesn't do anything and per the other posters suggestions, toshiba doesn't have any updated drivers for the mousepad. Thanks for ANY help Lonnie "Chris H." wrote: > Tablet PCs run Windows XP Pro as the operating system, Lonnie, with the > Tablet PC Edition superset on top. | Re: software that doesn't work on a tablet that does on a desktop Thanks for your suggestion Terry, but Toshiba don't have any updated drivers that I can tell. By the way, I have a Toshiba M205 S810. Do you have a tablet? and can you run this spywareblaster on your system? Man it does a good job doesn't it. I don't have any trouble now that I've got it on my desktop. Thanks for ANY help/suggestions. | Re: software that doesn't work on a tablet that does on a desktop Hi Chris...yes they have plenty of drivers :) but unfortunately none of them apply to my tablet, or at least that is what I'm seeing. If I click on the url you gave me in your post and do a filter search as per your instructions I come up with updates sure, but when I click on the update file, it shows applicable models and my model doesn't show up as one of them. I did do a search for updates prior to my posting my last post about no updated drivers, but I focused on my specific model in doing the search. Should I NOT do that, and is it acceptable to install drivers for other models, such as the Satellite, onto my model, which is the M205 S810? All I'm trying to accomplish in asking if that is acceptable, is limiting the re-installation of drivers, system OS's.....etc...etc...to as few as possible :) Thanks for your time and effort in helping me with this problem. | Re: software that doesn't work on a tablet that does on a desktop No, don't install drivers that aren't made for your machine, Lonnie. | Re: software that doesn't work on a tablet that does on a desktop Because of the way Toshiba's web site is constructed, I cannot give you a direct URL to the downloads, but maybe . . . This page is where I selected Portables/Portege/M205-S810: http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/t...ceghdgngdgmm.0 When I tap the Go button, I can then select the Downloads, then get a page with Filler by Operating System, Filter by Category. When I select Windows XP SP2/All Categories and then tap Apply Filter, I get 36 results including 13 released by Toshiba in September, 2004, alone. -- Chris H.
