| MS Windows XP (SP2) and Writing Recognition Function Greetings. I recently decided to postpone buying a Tablet PC until the so-called 3rd generation Tablet PCs come out. In the meantime, is it possible to install a pen mouse and use the writing recognition functions that are, as I understand it, included in the MS Windows XP SP2 download? The MS website says I should install it from the MS Office XP CD, but isn't the version (that is, the one with the advanced writing recognition function -- "Tablet PC 2005") that comes "attached," so to speak, with the SP2 far superior? In other words, instead of writing with a stylus on the LCD monitor of a Tablet PC, can't the same thing be done on a mouse pad using a pen mouse? Or is it when you install MS Windows XP on a Tablet PC, the program recognizes the special hardware and installs software that can only be used on Tablet PCs? |

| Re: MS Windows XP (SP2) and Writing Recognition Function No, you can only get the improved Tablet Input Panel and recognition installing on a Tablet PC using a Tablet PC CD key. -- Terri Stratton Editor / Owner http://thetabletpc.net http://themediacenterpc.net Microsoft Windows MVP / Tablet PC "Rebecca" <Rebecca@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:B96A1319-3E61-4981-89C4-BCAAF9F369CB@microsoft.com... > Greetings. | Re: MS Windows XP (SP2) and Writing Recognition Function Yes, Stephan, I understand that, but the OP didn't sound like a developer, but an end user who simply wants to use the new TIP on a writing pad without spending money on a Tablet PC. Our standard answer usually covers the MSDN option and the caveat that it's only for use in development and not for a production machine that isn't used for development. -- Terri Stratton Editor / Owner http://thetabletpc.net http://themediacenterpc.net Microsoft Windows MVP / Tablet PC "Stefan Wick[MS]" <swick@online.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:On4GlPcwEHA.3376@TK2MSFTNGP12.phx.gbl... > You can install Microsoft WindowsXP TabletPC Edition 2005 on a desktop > computer for development and testing purpose if you are MSDN subscriber > (level "Operating Systems" or higher). > > See here for more details: > http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/de.../tabdevfaq.asp > > Thanks, > Stefan Wick > -- > This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no > rights.
