| Hover select. I DO NOT like the hover select feature of my Motion 1400 tablet PC. I want to disable this function for both the pen and mouse use. I have communicated with the Motion technical experts to no avail. Is there any way to completely disable the hover function? |

| Re: Hover select. Al, could you tell us exactly what you're doing when you get this? If the TIP are opening when you point at them rather than tap, that's changeable in the options of the Tablet Input Panel. -- Terri Stratton Editor / Owner http://thetabletpc.net http://themediacenterpc.net Microsoft Windows MVP / Tablet PC "Al Izy" <albizy******.com> wrote in message news:145401c4bd0c$02c1a980$a401280a@phx.gbl... >I DO NOT like the hover select feature of my Motion 1400 > tablet PC. | Re: Hover select. Might also (beside what Terri suggested) check your mouse settings in Control Panel/Mouse. Depending on the drivers you're running, even the Touchpad software may be of issue here. -- Chris H. | Re: Hover select. A NORMAL FUNCTION OF THE Motion 1400 tablet PC software is to select a program, file, document etc. just by hovering over the subject. This can be done with the pen or the mouse arrow. I am used to pointing to an object to open the little information box to see what is there without actually opening or starting the operation. As you see this is NOT an error or computer problem. It is my preference to only open the subject by actaully tapping or clicking. I have been to the pen options screen and there is no setting to disable this function. There is a function to minimize the scan area but I want to completely eliminate the ability to select by hovering. I have been in contact with the Motion technicians and they only recommended the obvious tweaking. I have performed the following, but I don't know if it is correct or if it will cause other problems. 1. Create a restore point. 2. Click Start, Run, type regedit, click OK. 3. Find "hover" 4. Of the many finds the one most likely to be correct is: My Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\MicroSoft\Int ernetExp lorer\AdvancedOptions\Browse\ULINKS\HOVER. 5. I right clicked checkedvalue and Modified "hover" to "no". 6. I right clicked defaultvalue and Modified "yes" to "no". 7. Exit. I have not had it changed long enough to know if it really works or if it has caused any other problems. If you can evaluate this change and let me know your assessment I would appreciate your feedback. Al >-----Original Message----- >Al, could you tell us exactly what you're doing when you get this? | Re: Hover select. Al, we're users here who attempt to help other users, which is why we asked the questions of where you were seeing this happening on your machine. Personally, I change the "point/select" settings wherever I happen to run into them and have never had an issue with selections I didn't want. Unless it is something brand new with the 1400, I haven't seen it before. -- Chris H. You may not be dealing with a tablet issue at all, but a normal windows setting. In windows explorer, go to tools, options, and on the general tab, there's a "click items as follows" box. Make sure double click to open an item is selected. The single click options will highlight things as you move the mouse - which could be why you get things selected when hovering. -- John |

| Re: Hover select. Chris H. I get files and programs selected when I am scanning a list just looking. I have to wait for the hover selected item to open and then close it before going on. I don't want to select using hover. I want to completely disable the hover function. I prefer to select using taps with the pen or clicks with the mouse. There is no way in the "point/select" settings to disable the hover function. I appreciate the help and I am now trying to confirm that my solution was correct and that I have not caused any other damage. I know that the registry is very touchy about changes and when I make a change that was not specifically advised by a competent authority I like to have my actions verified. | Re: Hover select. My apologies, I talked again to a Motion technician (a different one) and found that the actions I was encountering were not normal. (I assumed they were because my Motion computer always worked that way.) We changed the registry entries back and disabled the touchpad. He also suggested that my pen may be defective. Anyway the problem has not happened again and I hope it is OK now. Thanks for your interest and dialogs on this problem. | Re: Hover select. Chris, I now believe that my touchpad is defective. I did not report this before but once in a while I would get a right click while the arrow was in a blank part of the screen during virus scanning by my Norton software. I usually keep my touchpad active so I can use the left and right clicks from there. I have now disabled the touchpad permanently and neither of the problems have occurred. As reported before this select problem was also occurring from the mouse point, so it is most likely the touchpad rather than the pen as I suggested ealier. Thanks again for your interest, Al >-----Original Message----- >That's cool. Wonder why the interference between the touchpad and pen >selection?
