| Toshiba Protege 3505 Windows XP Pro SP 2 install try I tried installing Windows XP Professional SP2 upgrade on Toshiba Protégé 3505 running Windows XP Home SP2 upgraded. The problem I have is Windows will not recognize the product keycode. Now, the code was used for a desktop but I thought all Windows products could be installed once on desktop and once on notebook (Tablet PC). Microsoft tech support tried other product keys but XP Pro would not accept them either. Senior MS tech support did claim you can only install one copy of XP Pro SP2 upgrade to one computer due to Windows being bound to the hardware of the first computer it meets. That sounds wrong as why did they bother with other keycodes when they knew that I had installed the same CD on a desktop. It also sounds wrong as how would the notebook know I had installed the CD on a previous computer? And, the rest of the advice MS senior tech support gave me was even worse. She told me I would have to buy the new CD of Windows XP Pro SP2 from Toshiba due to an OEM issue and would have to format my notebook hard drive before installing the new Windows XP Pro SP2 CD. I told the tech thanks but no thanks as that is way too much work for a computer that works fine on XP Home SP2 now. 1. IF I want to install Windows XP Pro SP2 upgrade CD on my Toshiba Tablet PC do I need a new copy and must that copy be purchased from Toshiba due to some OEM issue? 2. The Toshiba works but seems slower than it should be. Are there issues with the Toshiba Tablet PC? If so, what are the worst ones? I can afford another Tablet PC so should I buy one? What does anyone recommend for the best speed and least problems? 3. Are there any advantages of installing Windows XP Pro SP 2 on the Toshiba Protégé 3505 now running Windows XP Home SP2? If so, what are they please? Thanks for any comments. Ron Porep ronaldeporep@comcast.net |

| Re: Toshiba Protege 3505 Windows XP Pro SP 2 install try Before straightening out other issues, you need to go back to the Toshiba OEM CD/DVD and get your Tablet PC system properly installed. Then just to the free XP SP XP2/Tablet PC Edition 2005 upgrade from Microsoft. Downloads are available through Windows Update, from http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en or by ordering the free CD here: http://www.microsoft.com/technet/pro.../winxpsp2.mspx You don't need anything but the original OEM CD/DVD to get the system back in shape (the PID is on a label on your machine), then update the system with the drivers now offered for download on the Toshiba web site. Then do the XP SP2/Tablet PC Edition 2005 update over that. -- Chris H.
