Tablet PC Input Panel

I have a Tablet PC running Windows XP. Whenever I enter a capital F from the
Tablet PC Input Panel, the Search dialog screen appears. How can I map the
Tablet PC Input Panel to remove this feature. I cannot enter a capital F
into any document. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Tablet PC Input Panel

Could you elaborate exactly when you're seeing this? Is it in the Writing
Pad, Character Pad or Onscreen Keyboard? Is it a specific program into
which you're attempting to insert Text? Is the Tablet Input Panel in Docked
or Undock mode? If Docked, is the TIP at the top or bottom of the screen,
and are you in Landscape or Portrait mode?

Re: Tablet PC Input Panel

This is happening on the Input Panel Keyboard. It does not matter which
program I am trying to insert text. I can have the Tablet docked or undocked
(Same way with Portrait or Landscape) and still have the same result. I am
not sure what the TIP is when referencing the top or bottom of the screen.

Re: Tablet PC Input Panel

The TIP can be place in Dock mode either at the top or bottom of the screen,
in the Options and also includes Undock. 8-)

On a wild guess here, have you programmed any buttons or even the pen button
for this action? Okay, never mind. 8-) Did this just start happening in
the last couple days? Did it previously work correctly? If so, go into
System Restore and use a Restore Point back to when it was functioning
properly.

If not any of the above, I would first check the graphics card drivers, to
make sure you've got the most recent ones installed. Then open the TIP and
test again.

Second, check in Control Panel/Regional and Language Settings/Languages tab
and then tapped the Details button for the Installed Services? You should
have Advanced Text Services which includes Tablet PC Correction, Tablet PC
Correction for Windows Journal and Tablet PC Text Insertion. (If you have
Office 2003 installed you will also have a fourth entry.)

Third, if the above are correct, go to the Command Prompt (not Start/Run)
and enter "regsvr32 inkobj.dll" without the quotation marks, then Enter and
then "regsvr32 tpcps.dll"
(without quotes) then Enter again. Restart your machine after finishing
each of those two modifications to the Registry.

Re: Tablet PC Input Panel

Chris,

Thanks for the reply! This tablet belongs to my boss. He was trying to use
the input panel for the first time since the computer was set up for him when
we noticed that the capital F would bring up the search dialog box from the
tablet input panel. The panel is ususally docked at the bottom of the
screen. I should mention that he does have Office 2003 installed. I will
try you suggestions. Thanks again for your time!

Re: Tablet PC Input Panel

Make sure the boss calibrates the pen. 8-) It is important to get started
on the right foot. You might point him to the tutorials on All
Programs/Tablet PC/Table PC Tutorials (and download/install them if he
hasn't). There's also good information in All Programs/Get Going With
Tablet PC.

Re: Tablet PC Input Panel

Yikes! The input panel is acting very wierd. Now any key I press opens up
my computer. Looking at the Event Viewer, I see DCOM errors!! When I scan
using Trend Micro's House Call, I see the machine is infected with HTML
CITIFRAUD.C. I can remove the virus but how do I deal with the DCOM errors.
The Talbet has VPN software that is not compatable with Windows XP Service
Pack 2. Thanks for the help.

Re: Tablet PC Input Panel

First, you need to get the system clean of the virus by using your
anti-virus program. Since your system apparently has been infested, I would
also check for Trojans and parasites. There is a lot of information here:
www.aumha.org/secure And if your VPN program is causing errors and you know
it is incompatible in the present state, I would be on the software source
for an update.
