signing a form

Does anyone know a way, on a form where most entry blanks turn into text,
that you can have a signature area that stays as a signature, as on a
contract form, so that I can have paperless, signed contracts?

Peter there is a lot of information, including some on legalities, on the
MSDN web site:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/de...bconinksig.asp
There are also a lot of programs which claim various digital signature
capturing, but I don't know that there is a universally (legally) accepted
method verifying and storing with encryption as yet. You might want to do a
search on the Internet (like with Google) for Tablet PC signatures, and
you'll see the vast array of available software programs.

Re: signing a form

Thank you, Chris. I've started reading the article by the Leszynski Group,
Inc, and it looks good so far. To begin with it gets to the opoint that I am
talking about an ink signature -- digitized, as opposed to an electronic
verification known as a digital signature or certificate. So, I'll keep
reading -- looks good though, thanks.

Re: signing a form

The "live" signature is sought for use in a lot of areas, Peter. I believe
there are more than a few companies involved in this type of process, but I
do not know the extent to which any "standards" have been established from
state-to-state for validity criteria and security of the stored signature.
The intended usage has a bearing on regulations which may or may not be
available or in place to govern the storage and verification. At least
you've got some leads now.

I have not figured it out as of yet either. I am a
Realtor and also need to have paperless, signed
contracts. I have posted several places and no one has
given me any concrete help as of yet.

Re: signing a form

My previous post in this thread gave an indication of what is happening.
Certain states have approved certain methods, but there is no universal"
policy of governing obtaining the signature, securing the signature and then
providing verifying proof of authentication. There really is more to the
system than might meet the eye. If I sign an offer on a home, how can the
lender verify it is my signature, and is it my full legal signature? Would
it be acceptable if I were offering the purchase property in Iowa, if I live
in New Mexico?

As I posted previously in this thread, check on the Internet, such as with a
Google search, for "Tablet PC signatures" and you will find numerous
programs. You might also check with your local Realtor Board, and even have
them check with the State Board to see what may be available, approved and
recognized in your area.

Re: signing a form

Mick,

Excluding the good information Chris has provided on some of the "legal
issues", a couple places to start in order to capture signatures on a Tablet
with your own forms would be:

1. The scanned image sample included with the Tablet SDK. This sample uses
a 1040 Form and has a signature block.

2. Omni Form product.

3. You can easily create your own forms using Access Forms. With a couple
lines of VBA code and the free InkPicture controls included with the Tablet
SDK, you can either create or customize current forms.

4. Scanning current forms and importing to MS Journal or GoBinder as
bitmaps may also work in your situation.

Hope this helps,

Fritz

RE: signing a form

If you don't use SP2, you can create a from field, then when you have the
person sign it, click on send, and then send as ink. This puts the signature
in the form field. You have to size the form field (font) accordingly to get
the signature in. don't know about legalities, however. It does give a good
signature. This feature got lost in SP2, as nearly as I can tell.
