| Help on Using Tablet in an Education System!! Hey all: I am currently a medical student and I use my Tablet PC to take notes in all my medical school classes. Currently, the administration at our medical school is moving forward to require all of the incoming students for next year to purchase a laptop for school. Since, I've had a positive experience in using my tablet for school, I am meeting with one of the dean's of our school, to try to convince her to towards requiring a tablet. I know for a fact that they are wary in doing that due to the cost of tablets. But If I'm not mistaken, most Tablets today do not cost as much as they did when they were first introduced, right? I believe that I remember that some were as much as $3500 - $4000. I know that I bought my Gateway M275XL which is Gatway's top of the line for $2300 (2600 w/ full comprehensive warranty and insurance.) So anyway, my questions are this: 1.) Is it possible to get a nicely equipped Convertible and/or Slate for under $2000? I really haven't kept up w/ prices since I bought mine. 2.) Can anyone point me to any case studies in which Tablets have been used in higher education? (I would be especially interested in any studies done in a med school setting or any science programs.) 3.) What in terms of education software is out there for specifically designed for Tablets. (I currently use Go Binder, besides this is there anything else out there?) I figured that I'd ask here, since everyone has been really great in helping out with answers I've had to problems w/ my tablet. Thanks RV |

There is a link to Education case-studies off Microsoft's main tablet page: www.tabletpc.com : http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/t...n/default.mspx |

| Re: Help on Using Tablet in an Education System!! Hi, RV - Prices have come down some, and there's a new model - Averatec - that's closer to $1300 than the $2000 many Tablets cost. Of course, there are always trade-offs. Go-Binder is an excellent choice and I don't know that you could find anything any better, especially for the cost. Since Mike gave you the link from MS, you might also search a couple of other sites, such as http://motioncomputing.com for some medical case studies as well, since they may come in handy soon. Also, a Google search using "tablet" or "tablet pc" and "education" should give you several hits on different stories and case studies. Good luck with your meeting! You're definitely on the right track. -- Terri Stratton Editor / Owner http://thetabletpc.net http://themediacenterpc.net Microsoft Windows MVP / Tablet PC "RV" <RV@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:5445AAAD-18A1-4FB6-B052-69F32CEB6836@microsoft.com... > Hey all: > > I am currently a medical student and I use my Tablet PC to take notes in > all > my medical school classes. | RE: Help on Using Tablet in an Education System!! RV, I am currently a premed student and was hoping you could give me your take on the talbet experience. Im intrigued by its versatility, and if the applications work as advertised, my notetaking and organizing time will be reduced. Any suggestions on models? Thanks a bunch zub91 "RV" wrote: > Hey all: > > I am currently a medical student and I use my Tablet PC to take notes in all > my medical school classes. Some possibilities include: http://www.motioncomputing.com/products/tablet_pc.asp http://electrovaya.com/product/sc2100.html I bet you could get better pricing for a bulk order that conveys momentum for the product. > 2.) A hardware review by a doctor is at: http://www.medicaltabletpc.com/index...d=115&Itemid=2 Many of the most useful resources will be regular Windows medical programs that don't need much handwriting. A particular advantage comes from programs that generate a list of terms that can be added to your tablet dictionary, making input of medical terms simple. Many Web-based programs will not need modification except if they use particular technologies such as Java, which are more like conventional programs requiring some special modification to work on Tablet XP (see www.segal.org/java/ for details). |
