Re: Compaq Tablet Pc

Peter, do you have wireless enabled at the same time? If you have a switch,
I would turn that off, then make sure you have no items in "bridge" mode in
Network Connections/Properties of your LAN. Could also be a faulty cable.

Re: Compaq Tablet Pc

In Device Manager, what is the condition of the non-wireless Network
adapter? Even if it doesn't show as an error, you may want to reinstall the
Ethernet device. This may best be done by booting into Safe Mode (F8) so
nothing is loaded.

Re: Compaq Tablet Pc

My other thought, as I'm wondering about this, is what if you remove the
device in Device Manager, and then reboot your system so it rediscovers it?
It may then correctly ask for the drivers and properly install them.

Re: Compaq Tablet Pc

Okay, I had a nap so I've got a different idea. Go to the Command Prompt
and put in "ipconfig" without the quotes and see what it returns. If it
returns a 169.x.x.x address, and not your LAN address we've got a different
issue.

If that happens, do "ipconfig /release" followed by "ipconfig /renew" and
see what it gives you. If it fails, still giving you the wrong IP, shut
down your router/base station and then re-supply the power to it after about
three minutes. The DHCP probably isn't issuing a proper LAN-oriented IP.
