| .NET Franework 1.1 changes boot/log-in screen behavior? I'm one of those people that hates logging in. It's my computer, I'm the only person around here who is going to get their hands on it, and I'm not worried about security (at least not from some other human right here). I don't want to have to log-in or choose an account every time I boot up my computer, any more than I want to have to log-in or choose an account when I zap a burrito in the microwave or when I pick up the phone. I'm not in a corporate environment so I can afford to be loose and wreckless. My tablet PC has always been configured to just start up, without any ceremony. Turn it on, it grinds away for longer than I would like, but when it finally finishes, it's ready to go: Windows was up and running, no pestering me for who I am. Tonight I installed .NET Framework 1.1 (which is apparently required to run the trial version of "Tablet Enhancements for Outlook"). Immediately after installing this, my boot screen is now different: the machine boots up, and stops at the log-in screen where it wants to know which account I want. How can I get this to bypass this screen and just start up without hassling me? I assume that I could uninstall .NET Framework 1.1, but then apparently I won't be able to run the TEO. Do I have to choose between running TEO or suffering through - oh the humanity - clicking on my user name every time I boot? Or is there some easy way to force it to just start up without askin' me for anything? Acer TM C104 all the latest stuff (XP SP2, latest Wacom driver, all updates, etc.) Thanks. PS: I, too, can't get the @#*! TIP to undock, but that's a separate annoyance (and that was also the case before I installed .NET Framework 1.1, so it's not necessarily connected). One thing at a time. |

Sounds reasonable. I'll give it a try. Thanks for your help. |

| Re: .NET Franework 1.1 changes boot/log-in screen behavior? Hey bangbang. I'm actually the author of TEO, so I figure I'll post a reply even though you've already received a good response. I personally do not know of any reason why .NET 1.1 would change the login behavior, other than that it may have created a new user account (called ASPNET) if you have IIS installed. If you go into Control Panel -> User Accounts and if you see a user called ASPNET, you can remove this if you are not a developer. I assume that you are not since if you were you probably would have had .NET 1.1 already :) Let me know if this helps. Feel free to contact me directly at support@einsteinware.com. -- J. | Re: .NET Franework 1.1 changes boot/log-in screen behavior? Thanks, Paul. Didn't know about service pack for .NET. Will try your suggestion later. | Re: .NET Franework 1.1 changes boot/log-in screen behavior? If doing the .NET install doesn't bring everything into shape for you, the "known fix" is: ===== In Control Panel, go into Regional and Language Options, then select the Languages tab, and tap the Details button. In the Default input language, make sure your proper language is selected for your operating system. On the Advanced tab, make sure there is a check mark in "Extend support of advanced text services to all programs" and NO check mark in "Turn off advanced text services." Then on the Settings tab look at Installed services. Make sure you have Advanced Text Services, with sub entries of Ink Connection, Tablet PC Connection, Tablet PC Connection for Windows Journal and Tablet PC Text Insertion. If not, use the Add button on the right. Then use the Apply button in the lower-right corner, followed by OK to close this screen. Back in the Regional and Language Options screen, switch to the Advanced tab, then place a check mark in the box at the bottom for "Apply all settings to the current user account and to the default user profile", followed by Apply and OK again. Make sure to restart your Tablet PC after making the changes. ===== If that does not work for your system, please post back. -- Chris H. | Re: .NET Franework 1.1 changes boot/log-in screen behavior? I see others have responded to you, Skee. Definitely give their suggestions a try. Unfortunately I am unable to support the Framework and it's relation to other Tablet PC components, though I can say that outside of this newsgroup, I've not seen any other reports of that behavior. I *really* wish MS would have made .NET 1.1 built into SP2. -- J. | Re: .NET Franework 1.1 changes boot/log-in screen behavior? Problem remains the same. Re-installed Framework 1.1, keyboard gone. Speech and hand-writing working OK. OSK also missing on Windows startup. Installing SP1 for .NET 1.1 failed on error 1706. So,problem is definitely on .NET installation, which took almost 1 hour on my Fujitsu ST4110. Also had Chinese language installed on the tablet. | Re: .NET Franework 1.1 changes boot/log-in screen behavior? Go to the Command Prompt (not Start/Run) and put in "regsvr32 inkobj.dll" without the quotation marks, then Enter and then "regsvr32 tpcps.dll" (without quotes) then Enter again.
