| Re: Problem with Word 2003 and handwritten text And you did try doing the Office Repair install? If so, and the three Ink entries are not showing up under View/Toolbars in Word 2003 I would suggest you post to one of the Office newsgroups. I'm also doing some tracking down of the issue with the Office team at Microsoft, so perhaps we'll come up with a solution soon. -- Chris H. | Re: Problem with Word 2003 and handwritten text - A Clue The problem seems to involve the differences in Tablet 2005 OS and Windows XP OS. I reloaded my OS with the standard XP version and the full handwriting tools appeared. When I reloaded the Tablet OS, only the abbreviated version is available. I've done a full format and reload with both OS systems twice so I'm confident that this creates the situation. | Re: Problem with Word 2003 and handwritten text - A Clue They are one, Glenn. The Tablet PCs run Windows XP Pro as the operating system with the Tablet PC Edition running on top much as Media Center Edition computers run that superset on XP Pro. You're also having the error, and I don't see it on three different Tablets which I run here. Something else is happening that I'm not seeing on the three different brand machines. What other programs do you have installed? Anything like a third-party software firewall? -- Chris H. | Re: Problem with Word 2003 and handwritten text - A Clue Well, if you get someone from MS interested, I'd be happy to run my machine over to Redmond for them to look at. I'm former MS. In fact, I was the guy who recommended you to become an MVP. :-) -R In article <#cU#txzqEHA.3728@TK2MSFTNGP09.phx.gbl>, winxpnews********.com says... > They are one, Glenn. | Re: Problem with Word 2003 and handwritten text - A Clue Perhaps some progress. I do have access to all three inking toolbars and I can use ink drawing to create a "text" box and handwrite directly into it. What I cannot do is find a way to recognize the handwritten text within the box and covert the handwritten text to typed text. I can do this on my tablet when I only load XP. The options are no longer available with the Tablet PC overlay. I'm guessing this is the same problem that Russell is experiencing. | Re: Problem with Word 2003 and handwritten text - A Clue Glenn, I posted elsewhere here before the procedure on converting Ink in Office from handwriting to text: ===== As for converting, there are a few steps to that. If you used the Handwriting Toolbar to write directly into Word (without using the TIP), then on the Ink Drawing and Writing Toolbar, tab the little white arrow (Select Objects) and drag around the Ink you wish recognized. When you've selected what you want converted to text, right-click your selected area and choose Copy Ink as Text. Then place the cursor where you want to put the Text, right-click again and select Paste. In the long run, if your object is to Ink with the final objective being text, it is easier to use the Tablet Input Panel. ===== To me, it seems like the long way around, but that's because at the present time Office applications are not as aware of Ink (as I'd like to see them). 8-) -- Chris H.
