| TIP Problem with User Accounts I have two user accounts in my Administrator group. The one registered to the local machine domain has full functionality with TIP. The other user account is registered with a work domain and has no access to TIP; in fact the task bar icon does not respond. I'm using a Fujitsu 4110 tablet and I have uninstalled and reinstalled SP2 twice with the same results. Any suggestions? |

| Re: TIP Problem with User Accounts When you're in the "disabled" account, have you checked in Control Panel/Regional and Language Settings/Languages tab and then tapped the Details button for the Installed Services? You should have Advanced Text Services which includes Tablet PC Correction, Tablet PC Correct for Windows Journal and Tablet PC Text Insertion. -- Chris H. | Re: TIP Problem with User Accounts The current user account setups are interesting. When logged in as myself at my work Domain, in the Control Panel/User Accounts, I am listed as part of the "Administrators" Group. There is a second user account listed with a user name "Administrator" with a local machine domain, e.g. (XXX-FUJITSU) and the Group is also "Administrators". When I log in as "Administrator" the domain is the local machine as above and the Group is "Administrators"; however, the second user account (me) at my work Domain and Group Administrators does not appear. You will recall that when I log in as Administrator, TIP is fully functional. When I log in as myself the TIP icon is in the task bar but is non-responsive. As a test, I created a new user on the local machine Domain within the "Administrators" Group and when logged in as this user the TIP icon is on the task bar but it is also non responsive. | Re: TIP Problem with User Accounts Pat, there may be a restriction set by the domain itself which places limits through group policy of loading certain .exe files or has blocked you from the use of certain folders while in that account. When you're logged on to that domain account, go to Start/Run and put in "rsop.msc" (without the quotes) and then tap the OK button. This launches one of the policy settings areas, where you should be able to view anything which might restrict your usage. If nothing jumps out at you, could you try creating/adding another domain user account to the Admin Group, log in on that account and see if you have the same issue. The account you're using may itself have a problem, unless the domain is restricting certain things. -- Chris H. | Re: TIP Problem with User Accounts Hi Chris, There were domain based problems that our IT Department were able to correct; however, these corrections did not change the lack of TIP response in two of the three user accounts. Given that TIP works on one user account but not on others, it would appear that there may be other restrictions. We will do a detailed search and re-install SP2. More to follow... | Re: TIP Problem with User Accounts Well more interesting findings. We thought there may have been problems with one of the work user account because of the "x'd" out services when we ran rsop.msc. It turned out that the cashed credential for that account had expired. These were updated. SP2 was uninstalled and reinstalled and success TIP was now fully functional on the work account where it had previously been non-responsive. All was well in the universe until I logged on as an administrator on the local machine domain. Unfortunately, now TIP is non responsive on this account. I checked the other user account I created on the local machine domain and TIP was similarly non-responsive there as well. The obvious first question I would ask is, does anyone have TIP working properly on multiple user accounts on the same tablet? Is this question worthy of starting a new thread? | Re: TIP Problem with User Accounts I forgot to add in my last update that I ran filemon as per Josh's suggestion and did a search on "tabtip.exe". I got the following error message: "9:17:54 AM tabtip.exe:672 QUERY INFORMATION C:\WINDOWS\system32\AppProperties FILE NOT FOUND Attributes: Error". Interestingly, this error message appeared when logged into the account in which TIP was working fine. I could not find a listing for tabtip in the user account where TIP was not working - suggesting that its not even loading. Pat >-----Original Message----- >Well more interesting findings. | Re: TIP Problem with User Accounts Sure seems like a permissions problem to me. You might try running FileMon unfiltered (you'll get a ton of entries) and looking for access denied errors. | Re: TIP Problem with User Accounts Pat, just curious if this is your situation: I saw another report of TIP/XP SP2 problems related to domain usage, and the "fix" for it was discovery of the account not having the proper permissions to actually do the XP SP2/Tablet PC Edition 2005 installation. Moving the permissions up to a level to execute the upgrades enabled the full usage. What apparently results is the account is left in limbo with no update because it doesn't have the permissions to (1) install the updates and (2) what was there before (the native Tablet install) doesn't exist any more. -- Chris H.
