Roxio has an add-on for copying to a CD that was acting up so I tried to uninstall and I think that may have caused the problem but I don't know how to fix it. |

| RE: right click "C" drive My Computer hangs I'd be interested in any resolution to this problem. I have a Toshiba Portege 3500 that has the same problem. I have disabled all shell extensions with no effect, I have restarted in safe mode and still when I right click on any drive in my computer or press alt-enter with any drive highlighted or even attempt to select the file menu with any drive highlighted, windows explorer hangs. | Re: right click "C" drive My Computer hangs I'd recommend a thorough scan on the system with the anti-virus program running the latest definitions, then go through some of the information here: http://www.aumha.org/secure.htm to check for parasites, Trojans and other malware on the system. If you have not yet updated to Windows XP SP2, then it is very likely the system is infested. It should be cleaned up before attempt to bring it to date. -- Chris H. | Re: right click "C" drive My Computer hangs Thanks Chris H, I run CA etrust with hourly updates via a redistribution server on our network. I use Innoculate for realtime and VET for the scheduled scan that is done each day. I have SP2 installed and have checked for spyware using adaware and CWShredder. I have also turned of System Restore, restarted in safe mode and run both anti-virus scans and adaware, both are clear. | Re: right click "C" drive My Computer hangs I have had this problem for some time now and the problem seems to exist in both SP2 and SP1. It seems to occur with USB drives, Network drives and the root C:\ alike. Trying everything suggested with no results. Hopefully someone digs a little deeper to identify this issue. Thanks for all your comments and suggestions. "Scott" wrote: > Thanks Chris, > > I am running classic folders, I did disable the "Fade or Slide Menus..." > option though with no change. | Re: right click "C" drive My Computer hangs I have just completed a factory restore on my Toshiba 3500 (with difficulty!!) and the problem is not present. I have installed SP2 plus all updates, office suite etc and still no problem. I am setting a restore point before I install anything - if it recurs I'll let you know what app did it. regards "G2 Scuba" wrote: > I have had this problem for some time now and the problem seems to exist in > both SP2 and SP1. | Re: right click "C" drive My Computer hangs Sharron - I tried all the items in the article but alas the problem prevails. It seems it is a complete HANG it immediately goes to a "Not Resoponding" state in the task manager this goes for a right click or trying to use file, tools etc. in the menu bar. It seems the CPU usage is occupied breifly ( 3-5 sec) then nothing is consuming CPU usage. Any other recommendations would be appreciated. :) G2 "Sharon F" wrote: > On Sun, 9 Jan 2005 15:03:02 -0800, G2 Scuba wrote: > > > Awesome I'm not really ready to do a factory install. Here's a link in regards to CD burning: http://www.aumha.org/win5/a/xpcd.htm In the troubleshooting section it goes over some Roxio trouble spots. There is mention of deleting registry keys and a few files. May want to create a system restore point or manually export registry keys and retain copies of the files in question (place in another folder) before making changes. I had similar trouble on a desktop with an earlier version of Roxio (could not access drive properties via right click or File menu; right click often caused an error and crashed explorer) and these things helped to sort it out for me. Perhaps they'll be of some help to you too. -- Sharon F MS-MVP ~ Windows Shell/User |
