| Acer C301 battery-standby power loss Anyone else seeing this? When I put it into standby, in a matter of a few minutes, it loses power. It gives every appearance of having a loose battery connection that momentarily kills the standby power. But, the odd thing is that it never happens when I am using it (which gives it more jostling than sitting on the desk in standby). It won't lose standby if the power supply is connected. Any ideas on how to diagnose it? |

| Re: Acer C301 battery-standby power loss I'd call Acer support immediately and let them know of the issue. Standby will use power, since it isn't a shutdown of the system like Hibernation. However, you might also take a look at what hardware devices are enabled and running. For instance, if you do not using wireless, do you still have it turned on? Bluetooth or infrared, even though you aren't actively using them, will continue to check to see if you have an available connection - even if you have no intent of using it. Only running the devices you actually use will save battery power overall. -- Chris H. Is it actually losing power altogether, and rebooting from scratch when you power it back up? Or is it resuming from a previous state still? What is the battery level when you power it back on again? As Chris said, seems like it's something for warranty repair if it's not simply sneaking into hibernation behind your back. -- John |

| Re: Acer C301 battery-standby power loss Chris and JDThree - thanks for responding. After further testing, I stand corrected: it does fail when running. It is a complete loss of power from the batter being loose (no hibernation). I tested with just the BIOS screen up to take the OS out of it. The battery will nudge forward very slightly (about 1/2 mm) and that is enough to disconnect the power every time. Can anyone else with a C300 test to see if they have this problem? I plan to call Acer, but I cannot return it for a couple of weeks. In the meantime, I am going to try tightening the battery (maybe by jamming a toothpick into the area where it moves forward). | Re: Acer C301 battery-standby power loss Follow-up: I placed a plastic paperclip against the base of the battery before latching it down. It provides enough spacing to firmly push the battery against the contacts so nudging the battery does not cause a disconnect. | Re: Acer C301 battery-standby power loss 8-) Inventions, inventions. Very good (for now), but I would still make sure you alert Acer to the issues, perhaps even calling now to start a case number with them. -- Chris H. | Power management and IR enabled I am happy to see that I am not the only experiencing such a issue. It happened to me after I enabled IR in the BIOS (F2 setup at startup). Everything went back to normal after I switched it back off. Thanks Acer for partitioning my hard drive (as a default option. It took me a while to merge it back into one), not enabling me to use IR (I always have to carry my USB cable to sync my Treo 600) and to make me download through Microsoft update a patch for the secure card that made my C300 to always carsh until I managed to read a thread explaining the issue. I love my C300 but not the way Acer manages customer experience! Would be interested to know how to use IR with power management behaving normally.... Thanks for this forum |
