| Re: Tablet with Full size PC and touch screen monitor Rob, the Tablet PC Edition superset which runs on Windows XP Pro is not available at the local computer shop. It only comes on OEM Tablet PCs or via a subscription to MSDN. Tablets use digital screens, with the exception of only a couple vendors. -- Chris H. Probably but maybe not be that useful - a touch screen will likely not capture motion fast enough for handwriting recognition, and it certainly won't be comfortable to write on as you'll have to hold your hand away from the surface. Try looking into one of Wacom's external digitized screens. |

| Re: Tablet with Full size PC and touch screen monitor i dont really know if we will be using the hand recog. since we are looking to use full size high res touch screens..... but.. you believe that this is possible to use some/ most / all of the features of this OS.. OR.. is there a recommended touch screen app that can be used to most of this extent with standard XP.. we really like what was built into the tablet pc OS... r "Mike Williams [MVP]" wrote: > > "Rob" <Rob@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message > news:D0CD6A5D-E0BA-4899-8B71-20BB45329DEE@microsoft.com... > > MSDN is where i coming from.. is this hardware setup at all possible?? > > Probably but maybe not be that useful - a touch screen will likely not > capture motion fast enough for handwriting recognition, and it certainly > won't be comfortable to write on as you'll have to hold your hand away from > the surface. | Re: Tablet with Full size PC and touch screen monitor What functionality do you need from the Tablet PC OS if you don't need the recognizers? A touch screen will not be able to accurately capture handwriting which it seems is not what you want to do anyway. With that said, you should be able to accomplish anything else you wanted to do using plain old XP Pro + touch screen. The touch screen will just act as a mouse. And if you wanted to use standard ink collection API's for things like drawings, you could just install the Tablet PC SDK on XP Pro. -- Josh Einstein Einstein Technologies -------------------------------------------------------- Add ink input to Outlook with Tablet Enhancements for Outlook! | Re: Tablet with Full size PC and touch screen monitor i dont think that its the handwriting recog that being looked at for testing.. more of the full touch and stylus functioniality with the full package of monitor keyboard mouse etc.. there will however be areas where a hand writing interpreter would be needed... its still a gray area since this is just an idea for testing.. we are looking for hardware that can make this functionlity a truer test other than adding to XP pro.. | Re: Tablet with Full size PC and touch screen monitor Rob, I think you'd be better off looking at some of the digitized monitors if you're leaning toward Tablet PC functionality. Touchscreen technology is only available on a couple models, doesn't allow the user to rest their hand on-screen like digital and is really more for the little hand-held devices with specialized software than a Tablet PC. -- Chris H. If you are just building a touch-screen kiosk app then tapping on the screen is simply going to emulate a big heavy mouse-click in ANY version of Windows. It doesn't sound like you are using any Tablet features. |
