| Digitizer not working? All -- I have a Toshiba Portege 3505. I loved it at first, but then the digitizer stopped working. There would be large areas on the screen that just would not accept ink. It was still under warranty, so I got the digitizer replaced and it worked great for about 3 months, but then the problem came back (this time in different spots). Now, 6 months after getting it replaced, the digitizer doesn't seem to work at all and the Tablet pretty much doesn't accept any ink. Has anyone else ever had this problem? It's still a fine laptop, but basically useless as a Tablet. I am considering getting another one, thinking maybe my particular machine is a lemon, but before I do that I want to hear if this is a common problem with Toshibas (so maybe I should look at a different brand) or not. Any insight folks could provide would be greatly appreciataed. |

| Re: Digitizer not working? I would immediately contact Toshiba and have them replace it for you. The behavior is unacceptable, and they should make good on it. -- Chris H. | Re: Digitizer not working? Michelle, I am having problems with my digitizer screen on my Toshiba 3505 also. I have a strip about 1/3 of the way in from the left side in portrait mode. I keep pressing on the screen through that area and it helps for a short time while using it. The amount of time I get varies. It is indeed frustrating. I use mine daily and would have a hard time giving it up for a few days or more. I purchased mine as an open item at Best Buy (only one they had). However, I noticed later that the case had been opened and some of the plastic in the one corner was cracked and now broke off. I also live far away from Best Buy which makes it difficult to go there. I read some messages from another 3505 user who went through a couple of digitizer replacements. I wonder if other makes/models have similar problems over time. I have used mine daily for about 10 months now. I wonder what the lifespan of the digitizers is? | Re: Digitizer not working? Jim, a hardware issue isn't one we can solve in this newsgroup. I know it has been reported that if you firmly but carefully press on the corners of the screen, that "may" help. However, I think you should contact Toshiba immediately and report your issues so they can deal with it under warranty. If you were to break the machine attempting to fix it yourself, they would rightfully be able to tell you they can't help. -- Chris H. My older 3500 has a bad CPU fan, and I found a site nearby that can fix it in a day. It's no longer my daily tablet, but it shows it *is* possible to sometimes get a good timeslot at a local center to get it done quickly. Saves the time in shipping as well. -- John |

| Re: Digitizer not working? As you know, I "thought" I had an issue on my M200 and called the local repair center (70 miles away, and in another state), but in talking with the fellows there managed to schedule a time for the following week where they set could aside three hours to work out the problem. In less than an hour in the shop, we couldn't get a reproduction of the issue, and so settled in to exchanging Tablet stories and drinking coffee. They were very cooperative, no charge and the coffee was free. 8-) -- Chris H.
