| SP TIP has somehow lost automatic character recognition Just as the Subject line says, my TIP originally showed the auto character recognition underneath the line while I was writing. Once I changed a couple of settings, though, it stopped and I can't get it to come back. Any advice is appreciated. |

| Re: SP TIP has somehow lost automatic character recognition Try going into Control Panel/Regional and Language Options, then select the Details button. In the Default input language, make sure your proper language is selected. Then tap the Advanced tab. Select Apply all settings to the current user account and to the default user profile check box, followed by OK, Apply and OK again. Make sure to restart your Tablet PC after making the changes. -- Chris H. | Re: SP TIP has somehow lost automatic character recognition When you change into a language unsupported by current handwriting recognition, handwriting recognition simply won't work. It happens to me a lot in Hebrew mode, and I have no complaints (besides waiting for RTL language support, some day). The problem Christopher describes happened to me once, when I set the TIP to send the text after a delay (without waiting for the "insert" button). Needless to say, I gave out that option. Instead, I set the TIP to select insert (and also open the TIP) by just hovering (rather than pressing) and it has been serving me well ever since. Avner. | Re: SP TIP has somehow lost automatic character recognition Hi Christopher, Did you turn on "Automatically insert text after a pause"? If so, then you won't get the recognition results below the writing line. For more info, please see this KB article: 875360 The recognition results and the correction option are unavailable in Windows XP Tablet PC Input Panel http://support.microsoft.com/?id=875360 Thanks! --Sears Young ----------------------------------------- This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights. | Re: SP TIP has somehow lost automatic character recognition Egad! That was exactly the problem! How interesting. Nice to have the little recognition boxes back again. Is this planned behavior or is it a bug? | Re: SP TIP has somehow lost automatic character recognition Sounds like behavior by design to me. If text is to be inserted after a pause, then how are you supposed to correct it? -- Josh Einstein Einstein Technologies -------------------------------------------------------- Add ink input to Outlook with Tablet Enhancements for Outlook! | Re: SP TIP has somehow lost automatic character recognition As the Knowledge Base article says, "The recognition results and the correction option are not available when the Automatically insert text after a pause check box is selected on the Writing Pad tab. Additionally, if the Automatically insert individual characters after a pause check box is selected, the recognition results and the correction option do not appear when you enter single characters in Tablet PC Input Panel." That is the design of the panel. If the user selects to automatically enter the text, then the option to double-check the words prior to Insert is removed. I suggest removing the timed auto insertion and setting the action of the Insert button to either the Tap or Point method. -- Chris H.
