| Re: Synchronization offline files tab missing Here's some wisdom from the Tablet Team at Microsoft for you, Drew. | Re: Synchronization offline files tab missing Offline Files requires you have rights to manipulate the files in question, Drew, i.e., the account needs to be a member of the Administrator group or granted the rights to move, edit, copy, etc. Could you create a new user account (from "the" Administrator account) which is part of the Admin group, and then try from the new account? If that doesn't work, it sounds like perhaps checking the group policy is next in line. You can go to the Command Prompt (not Start/Run) and type in "gpresult" without the quotes. Look for this at the end of the report: ===== The user is a part of the following security groups: ---------------------------------------------------- None Everyone Debugger Users BUILTIN\Administrators BUILTIN\Users LOCAL NT AUTHORITY\INTERACTIVE NT AUTHORITY\Authenticated Users ===== If that isn't what you're seeing, then we need to edit the Registry. This must be done with extreme caution. Go to Start/Run and type "regedit" without the quotes. It is always a good idea to back up the Registry before making any changes. You can do this when you've opened the file by using File/Export. Next, navigate to these Registry keys: ===== HKEY_Local_Machine\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Win dows\NetCache HKEY_Current_User\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Wind ows\NetCache ===== If the entry for "NoConfigCache" is set to 1 (that's one), it disables the tab from appearing. Changing it to 0 (zero) should make it appear. Make sure to save your changes. -- Chris H. | Re: Synchronization offline files tab missing OK, victories in small steps. Under Local_Machine, it was set to "1", I set it to "0". It was not listed under Current_User. After setting to "0", and restarting, the tab has reappeared. But, however, all the choices are grayed out. -Drew >> ===== >> HKEY_Local_Machine\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Win dows\NetCache >> >> HKEY_Current_User\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Wind ows\NetCache >> >> ===== >> If the entry for "NoConfigCache" is set to 1 (that's one), it disables >> the tab from appearing. | Re: Synchronization offline files tab missing Have you restarted the machine? You could also, as we mentioned before, try creating a different User account (not a Limited User) to see if it kicks in. Go back and follow the information in Help and Support again. We are getting there, Drew. Hang in there! 8-) -- Chris H. | Re: Synchronization offline files tab missing Did a reboot after making the registry changes. The Help and Support would don't do much, since it only deals with the choice that are currently grayed out. I tried logging in as myself, the main user, and the admin account we first set the laptop up under. I can try a new admin level account and see what happens-Drew Chris H. wrote: > Have you restarted the machine? | Re: Synchronization offline files tab missing Ok, sorry for the delay. I went in, created a new local account, gave it admin rights, and then logged in as that account. | Re: Synchronization offline files tab missing Drew, I'm sorry but I don't have any more thoughts for you on the issue. Perhaps if you posted to one of the Microsoft Windows XP newsgroups - since that is the operating system functionality than "just" a Tablet PC - perhaps some of the more brilliant minds could give you a solid solution. I did a search on the Microsoft Knowledge Base for Offline Files in Windows XP, and pulled up these results if you'd care to browse through them: http://support.microsoft.com/search/...mDays=&InCC=on -- Chris H. | Fixed! Re: Synchronization offline files tab missing Greetings Chris H. and all- I wanted to touch base and tell you that (and how) the problem was resolved. Turns out that there were two issues; the first was the one fixed by Chris H. that got the tab to reappear. The second was that somehow this machine account ended up in a different OU than the first machine we created (the second OU had a GP that was stopping Off-line files). Not sure how it happened, but once we moved it to the correct OU, things seems to work fine. Just wanted to thank you for all your help-Drew Chris H. wrote: > Drew, I'm sorry but I don't have any more thoughts for you on the issue. > Perhaps if you posted to one of the Microsoft Windows XP newsgroups - since > that is the operating system functionality than "just" a Tablet PC - perhaps > some of the more brilliant minds could give you a solid solution.
