| Toshiba M200's tablet doesn't work after upgrading to SP2 I have performed installation and un-installation twice because my tablet didn't work "properly". On both occasions, the tablet worked fine during the first few boots (everything worked fine and I especially like the floating pen input screen). After a couple of boots, the tablet would continue to work (I kept moving the tablet on the screen during the initial Welcome screen and the load up of the virtual keyboard) before Windows finishing to load the Welcome screen. But the tablet would stop responding after Windows is loaded. Strange, the tablet would work again everytime I shut down the tablet pc (during the brief time between "shutting down" and completely shut down). So I suspect something is wrong with how Windows treat the drivers. I have tried to uninstall all the mouse and HID devices and let Windows re-install them automatcaly again, but without any success. Does anybody share this strange experience? I am certain I have disabled my Norton Antivirus' auto-protect while installing the upgrade (cause I've read some advice about disabling it in this newsgroup). Should I try perform the SP2 uninstall again? And completely remove my Norton SystemWorks before attempting to reinstall the SP2? Any help or assistance would be much appreciated. Thanks. |

| Re: Toshiba M200's tablet doesn't work after upgrading to SP2 I would check this web site - http://www.aumha.org/secure.htm - for information about parasites and Trojans, in addition to running a thorough system-wide check with your AV running the latest definitions. It sounds like your system has some issues, and you should make absolutely sure it is clean before attempt the update to SP2. Once clean, make sure you have the latest M200-specific drivers, especially the BIOS updates, installed AND that your system is stable with XP SP1 and the original Tablet PC Edition. -- Chris H. | RE: Toshiba M200's tablet doesn't work after upgrading to SP2 I have just uninstalled my SP2 to see if things will return to normal again. It did. But only for once. After my first reboot, my tablet behaved the same strange way again, i.e. worked the first few minutes until Windows is fully loaded. So I suspect something must had been gone wrong during my VERY FIRST SP2 upgrade. Does anyone know how to restore the tablet driver for Toshiba M200? I have visited their support website but couldn't find any driver updates. Thanks. | Re: Toshiba M200's tablet doesn't work after upgrading to SP2 Thanks Chris. My system has been working smoothly prior to my first attempt to upgrade to SP2. And I run a full scheduled virus scan every Friday. I don't really want to perform a system recovery right now, cause it is my main machine for work and I am busy lately (in hindsight, should have waited a couple of weeks or maybe month for the upgrade). Do you know if there is anyway to reinstall the drivers relating to the stylus? Also, I have found 2 devices under "Mice and other pointing devices" of device manager, they are Alps Pointing-device and HID-compliant mouse. There are another 4 devices listed under Human Interface Devices, namely, two instances of HID-compliant device, TOSHIBA Tablet PC Buttons Type N and Wacom Serial Pen Tablet. As nothing had gone wrong before, I didn't take note of the devices listed before the upgrade. Is that unusual? I have tried to remove all the HID-compliant devices by using uninstall from the property sheets, but they reinstall itself after reboots. | Re: Toshiba M200's tablet doesn't work after upgrading to SP2 What you're seeing in the device drivers listings is pretty normal, depending on what you're using. I have the Alps, plus two HID-Compliant mouse listings. But I also occasionally use a Microsoft Notebook mouse. Under Human Interface Devices, I have three HID listings (add my mouse), plus the other three you've listed. They are normal, too. For you "penabled" drivers, you should check the Wacom site: http://www.wacom.com/tabletpc/driver.cfm -- Chris H. | Re: Toshiba M200's tablet doesn't work after upgrading to SP2 Are you starting from within Windows itself, or trying to boot with it? I've done full system restores by starting in Windows. If that isn't what's happening, I would call Toshiba's support line. -- Chris H. | Re: Toshiba M200's tablet doesn't work after upgrading to SP2 I have done it via a reboot (sadly, I have done it a couple of times). I did find that it matters which USB port you used in order to get the system to boot from CD (I plugged it into the port closest to the power cord). -- Gary A. | Re: Toshiba M200's tablet doesn't work after upgrading to SP2 Hi Chris, Thanks a lot for you advice and help. I have found the cause of the problem. It was the driver that came with my Konica Minolta X50 camera. I had tried recovered my system and tried each application one by one (after upgrading to SP2) and found it was that particular driver that prevented my stylus from working after Windows had booted up. I then did another recovery and leaving that driver out. My system is now working perfectly. Thanks a lot again. | Re: Toshiba M200's tablet doesn't work after upgrading to SP2 Pretty amazing. Thanks for the report. Perhaps Konica has a more current driver which won't cause the issue, or maybe the driver just needs to be installed after SP2 is in place? Might check Konica's web site for information, and if they've got a support section where you could tell them of the issue it would be good. -- Chris H.
