| remote desktop as "remote control" From everything i have read so far, i assume this is possible...... i am building a "media center pc" or media server. it will run XP Pro, be connected to my wireless broadband router. i want to have complete control of it, wirelessly, from my tablet-running XP Pro. the "server" should not have any other input device or display (after setup). |

| Re: remote desktop as "remote control" Well, perhaps it is, although you used the term Media Center PC. 8-) If you're running Windows XP Pro, you should be able to use Remote Access without having to go through too many hoops. Take a look in Help and Support for both "remote access" and "remote desktop." Media Center Edition machines are specific hardware and software, allowing television, among other things, to function on a desktop computer. -- Chris H. | Re: remote desktop as "remote control" It works great! I have built a music studio with Windows XP Pro as the operating system and can control it remotely with my tablet pc. It works best with SP2 installed on both machines, prior with SP1 there were issues with midi sound, but that seems to have been resolved with SP2. stan wrote: > don't worry, i will keep asking! :) > they really are GREAT tools(and toys). while we're extolling the virtues of > tablets; mine has replaced my office desktop, my home desktop (and juggles > both networks), gives me email/internet on the road. i use it on job sites > for notes, sketches and to show cliients slideshows of past work! > all in all, pretty impressive! > "Chris H." wrote: >> LOL! | Re: remote desktop as "remote control" Yes, stan, it's officially available. Windows XP Service Pack 2 includes Tablet PC Edition 2005. From my earlier post - http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/d...s/default.mspx The good news is that this isn't just for US/Canada, although there is a schedule for the ordering process for other languages. This is worth noting - Please choose your country/region and language from the appropriate drop-down menu below. In order to successfully install Windows XP SP2, you must order the CD in the same language as the version of Windows XP that is currently running on your computer. -- Terri Stratton Editor / Owner http://thetabletpc.net Microsoft Windows MVP / Tablet PC "stan" <stan@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:A3FA6396-5225-422C-9661-09CC828C1BBB@microsoft.com... > you're using Remote Desktop? | Re: remote desktop as "remote control" It's an order form for the CD, stan. If you have more than one computer and you want to install without downloading to each computer, you can get the full SP2 download at - http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en or, if you have Windows Update enabled, it should pull it down fairly soon. That will install only what you need without having to download the full SP2 that includes updates for Media Center as well as Tablet PC. -- Terri Stratton Editor / Owner http://thetabletpc.net Microsoft Windows MVP / Tablet PC "stan" <stan@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:50D45432-E8FE-4CAC-83A4-61A84B209B0E@microsoft.com... > ahhh, thanks Terri. that's what i didn't know; that Tablet '05 was > included. > i'll go get it! > > "terri" wrote: > >> Yes, stan, it's officially available.
