Pressure sensitivity?

Hello,

say, do all tablet pcs support pressure sensitivity with their digitizers?
I looked around, but the manufacturers all list different information about
the digitizers, some not even telling which model digitizer is in the
tablet at all. Can someone shed some light on this, please?

"say, do all tablet pcs support pressure sensitivity with their digitizers?"

Oliver, pressure sensitivity is not a design requirement for the Tablet PC,
and I am not aware of any model not supporting it. I guess it is just
natural to have this built in. :)

If you're that tempted, I just found a website listing the hardware
specifications you can expect from every single Tablet PC. Hope that helps.

Thanks, I'll look at that. I got the impression that it wasn't something
that every tablet could do because I read an article somewhere from
somebody who stated in effect "how nice it is to have it, had I only known
before". Maybe I misunderstood something :-)

Re: Pressure sensitivity?

Oliver, the Compaq Tablet PC TC1000 did not use a pressure-sensitive
digitizer. It used FinePoint technology rather than Wacom.

If you haven't yet, you might want to take a look at my website (in my
signature) for all available Tablet PCs in one place. There are also
comparison charts that you might find helpful.

Hmmm... that's what made me suspicious too, when I considered that the HP
TC1000 needed a battery to operate. Thanks for the info.

Ah! Maybe the guy whose comment I read owned one of those. And all other
models use the same Wacom digitizers?

Yes, I have already seen those. Still, I just went back to have another
look and I found that I'll probably have to do that several more times
because it's hard to digest all that information! Thanks a lot, that's a
very useful site!

Eric, a little hint on quoting the previous message: Go to
Tools/Options/Send and put a check mark in "Include message in reply." Use
the Reply button on the toolbar, and the previous message will automatically
be quoted for you.

Re: Pressure sensitivity?

It's very likely he was using the TC1000, Howard. It was a very popular
model, just as the TC1100 is now. It's the only true hybrid, although
others such as Motion and Electrovaya are now offering an add-on keyboard
that makes them very similar in functionality. Difference is that the
TC1100's in standard.

Some programs will use the pressure-sensitivity, but not all, so if you're
interested in sketching, for example, make sure the program you plan to use
includes it.
