| In-Place Input Panel Doesn't Work - Please Help! Hello, I recently procured a Samsung tablet PC running Windows XP Table PC Edition 2005 with Service Pack 3 installed. I love this little tablet with one, incredibly annoying exception being the fact that the in-place Input Panel does not work at all. The input panel works fine when docked at the top or the bottom of the screen. It's when I select the Undock option that the panel disappears and there is no orange floating Input Panel icon next to the blinking cursor within any of my input fields. Oh how I long for the convenience that this feature promises... I've been researching this problem wherever I can find it reported and apparently it was a common side-effect of people installing SP2 on their tablets and the only documented fix was to uninstall and reinstall SP2. Well, I'm sitting at SP3 and I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling SP3 with no luck (obviously). I've even learned more than I ever wanted to know about tablet PC input panel caret tracking from MSDN through this process. I hope is that someone can point me to a Hotfix for this issue or at least give me some more ideas to go on. Have you experienced this? Is anyone else out there using a Samsung Model NP-Q1u tablet and are you experiencing the same thing? Thanks in advance! |

So, one question would be what "software" and the other is that is this happening across the board. Open Word or other ms app and tap at the insertion point and see if you get the tip icon. | Re: In-Place Input Panel Doesn't Work - Please Help! Thank you for your response Beverly. This is an across-the-board issue. I've never seen a TIP icon in any input field in any app, MS or otherwise after clicking the "Undock" option. Thanks. | Re: In-Place Input Panel Doesn't Work - Please Help! Even when you get it running you won't like it. Always need to move it around so it's not covering stuff you need to see while using it. Try the trial version of this instead: http://www.ritescript.com/Products/ritePen.aspx This thing kicks the TIP's butt. If you decide you want it, it's only $29.95. Made all the difference for me on my U810. I for one do *not* like it - under XP as well as under Vista (which my HP tc1100 is running with). > Try the trial version of this instead: > > http://www.ritescript.com/Products/ritePen.aspx > > This thing kicks the TIP's butt. Kicks to where? I for one tried it (a longer while ago). I uninstalled it after not too long. > Made all the difference for me on my U810. Maybe for YOU. I did not see the use of it. I prefer what's built-in (especially in Vista). Rainald |

| Re: In-Place Input Panel Doesn't Work - Please Help! Whatever. Suggestion still valid. OP can try for himself. He now has two completely different opinions of the same product. For those of us who do NOT have active digitizers, and therefore can NOT use gestures with the built-in TIP, RitePen knows how. It's worth the $29.95 just for that. Yeah, I learned the hard way... There are those that have an "active" digitizer which recognizes that the stylus is near the screen without actually touching it, and there are "passive" digitizers which require actual contact. From what I have been able to learn, "active" knows gestures and "passive" does not. Being a PocketPC user from way back, I was really unhappy to see that the gestures I used with that simple device wouldn't work with the U810. Totally killed my productivity when using stylus input. > > > > It's worth the $29.95 just for that. > > Under those circumstances for sure Yes. > > Rainald > |
