| tablets at work. hi i have a network - attached to the www. it goes Modem - Wireless router - Server - clients all clients access the web through the server it works and all is well, now i recently got 2 toshiba tablet pc's and the people using them are "mobile" now they can access the domain email/desktop etc etc from home and on the road by using the remote features i have setup - my only issue is how to treat them when they come into work. i dont want any wireless hubs/stations inside my network so i will be wanting them to connect using the routers wireless abilities. Now i need a way of making the tablets act the same way no matter where they are but when they come into work it should be a little bit faster as they are only a jump away from the server. So i "think" i need a way of adding some dns entries into the router to let it know that certain address such as mail.domain.com and intranet.domain.com are actually a hop away at 192.168.0.10 (my servers external cards ip) so im not sure any of this makes sence and im kinda thinking about it as i go along - im also interested in how other companies handle mobile workers who also bring the computers into work but dont connect "inside" the network. btw - dont wanna use vpn's thanks if u can help and sorry for the mumbling |

If you want to post some more details (infrastructure details, where private/public IP's are used (you can munge them if you wish, just designate the differences), which services are where, how everyone gets to them (i.e. firewall, NAT, what's in DMZ, etc), how your DNS is set up internally and externally, how your clients get their IP address both internally and when connecting through the external router's wireless, etc... You could also post in the networking group as well - would likely get more responses. Post as much info as you can though if you post in there, as they'll ask the for the details as well in order to get you the best answer. -- John |
