Tony, can you give specific information on the problem you had? My Motion
1300 seems to be running pretty darn well here.

Gosh, and mine is too. And lots of other folks. But rather than screaming to
the group, perhaps he might actually be a bit more specific?

Re: DON'T BUY THE MOTION 1300 OR 1400 TABLET

My 1200 has been working well regularly under heavy use out in the field for
over 18 months and it has the battle scars to prove it too.

Based on its performance and my level of satisfaction with the device and
Motion's out-standing technical support, I've ordered a 1400 to replace it.
Why? Because it works and I get good service. Did I experience a lapse in
judgment?? Boy, I hope not! ;) Granted, there could be a problem with the
new one but I'm confident that if there is we can get it resolved.

Tony, have you tried tech support? When I did have problems with mine and it
had to go to the tablet doctor, I first had to go through the reseller. Once
I realized the problem was beyond their scope, I escalated the concern to
Motion's Tech Support group and we had the problem resolved in a reasonable
amount of time.

Tip: You can always catch more flies with honey than vinegar.

Hello

Thanks for the responses. Sorry about the bad manners (shouting) but I
was just feeling totally frustrated.

Last year I bought a Motion 1300 which, after about 5 months, began
spontaneously shutting down even when using different batteries, power
supplies etc. The same thing then happened with a second M1300 which I
purchased to replace the first one. Now neither machine will boot at
all. I don't know what's gone wrong with the machine which I love so
much and which fits my needs in every respect (native landscape config,
etc etc).

Anyway, Motion has now agreed to take both machines in for repair ( I
live overseas) so hopefully the issue will be resolved shortly.

Thanks and greetings to all.

Good luck Tony, the Motion people jumped through hoops for me 18 months ago.

Tony, I have confidence of success with Motion. They're really pretty good.
But I'm curious if you tried some of the basic troubleshooting with the
systems before contacting Motion, and if so what you attempted?

No need to apologize for frustration. :) We've ALL been there.

The people I know with Motion systems have had incredibly good luck regarding
their stability and life. I know many people who had problems with Toshiba's
first gen tablet (I have one of them as well, but never had any problems).
Like many things manufactured off lines, there's always the certainty of a
small percentage of units that just don't cut it. You may just have been the
one "blessed" with the luck to get stuck with two of those unfortunate
machines.

Hopefully Motion will take care of you! I've heard a lot of positive about
them, and for people who *did* have issues, most of what I've heard has been
positive (unlike some of the other tablet support companies).

Good luck, and keep us posted.

My Motion 1300 started doing exactly the same thing after a few
months, Tony: shutting down spontaneously, regardless of the power
source. I sent it in for repair, it came back in less than 1 week,
and it still didn't work right. There were still problems with power,
and the IEEE 1394 adapter, which was fine before the repair, stopped
working.

It's back at Motion right now for more repairs.

Ouch! Bad enough that you get one that needs to be sent in, but to have to
send it in again... Now I'm really knocking on wood over here...

I had to send my hard-top keyboard back three times! They finally gave up
and sent me a new one; so far, the rubber cushion pads in the flip-up feet
are staying put...time will tell.

Chris...

I tried everything...refitted the memory sticks, switched HDDs, got new
batteries & power supply....the problem just got progressively worse on
both machines. In desperation I even asked a tech friend to take a peep
inside the first tablet. He told me it looked like a manufacturing
problem.....the motherboard seemed to be bent and was not accepting power
properly.

Co-incidentally, after listening to my description of the issue, the Motion
support person also said that it sounded like a problem with the
motherboard.

So it's left to be seen what measures will be taken to give me back my two
working machines.
