XP Tablet 2005 & XP SP2

Folks,
Anyone know if the latest version of XP Tablet Edition 2005 also needs XP
SP2 applied to it or has MS already built in the additional security etc.

Re: XP Tablet 2005 & XP SP2

The Tablet PC Edition 2005 is part of XP SP2, Doug. Install that Windows XP
update, and you'll automatically get the 2005 edition on a Tablet PC. They
are not available separately.

It is a superset of XP2, just as the original edition of Tablet PC software
was a superset of Sp1.

If you already have a Tablet, then installing SP2 will also add the new
Tablet-specific pieces.

Re: XP Tablet 2005 & XP SP2

Chris,

Thanks for your reply.

The reason I asked was the MS website indicates that all new Tablet PC's
from mid year onwards would be supplied with this 2005 version. I am in the
process of getting 200+ units and prior to that wanted to ensure the one I
use to create a Gold Image on is at the best level possible.

So maybe the more correct question should have been if I already have the
2005 version installed directly from the manufacturer do I need to load the
XP SP2 as well ?.

Regards

Re: XP Tablet 2005 & XP SP2

Doug, you'd need to verify with your vendor if your Tablets will include
SP2. SP2 release was delayed until just a few days ago, so if your Tablets
are already on the way to you, it's likely they may not have SP2
pre-installed.

As Chris said, Windows XP SP2 includes Windows Tablet PC Edition 2005.
They're not separate programs.

Re: XP Tablet 2005 & XP SP2

The OEM suppliers are the ones you'd need to check with, Doug. It is up to
them to roll out the updated Windows XP Pro SP2 with the Tablet PC Edition
2005. If they aren't prepared, you can probably work with them to supply
you with updated images once they have the logistics in place.

I do know Microsoft works very closely with OEMs, and they've probably
already started preparing their own images. Whether or not they will hit
your order or not is up to them.
