Took it down to the local coffee shop to test the wireless connection
(haven't got my router yet)..

In 15 minutes had three people come over to ogle it...

The guy using the mac in the corner just packed up and left..

For me thats worth the $3k right there.

In the last 3 months since I purchased my tablet in the "wild" I have seen
mostly HPs followed by Toshibas and Acers. Except for at Tablet PC events I
have not seen a Motion or Gateway branded Motion.

Just a couple of days ago (right before my Acer c301 went out again) at
another Starbucks there was 1 laptop, my Acer and an HP tablet. The person
with the laptop was quizzing me about price, etc. saying they were getting
ready to replace laptops at work and she was going to do some serious
lobbying for a tablet instead. I think I've probably sold 4-6 just from
people I've been doing business with since I got mine.

When I was at Micro Center complaining about my tablet developing a heat
problem (the little spacer foot melted right off the edge of the screen) one
of the salesmen I know there said they were flying off the shelves. So I
wouldn't be surprised if you were right about this quarter being a record.
Despite my unhappiness with the quality of my tablet I seriously doubt I'll
ever buy a regular laptop again.

Oh. Well that's not really the norm. You're lucky then. I've been to several
airports and coffee shops, bookstores, etc and I've never seen a single
tablet. In fact when I went to SuperComm in Chicago I saw more tablets on
display than I did in the hands of users. Everybody wants to look at them,
but not enough people know about them.

I'm sure it will change eventually, but right now I've yet to see one other
than people I know directly and have convinced to purchase. (In the
Philadelphia / Delaware Valley region.)

They're probably terrified of a repeat of the Newton disaster if the
handwriting reco isn't at least as good as Microsoft's.

There would be some interesting cross-platform issues for Microsoft Office
if Apple created a different ink-type. The prospect of using Microsoft's
technology there might be provoking consternation @ One infinite Loop.
Heaven knows though, if Disney puts out a penabled PC (pix at

then Apple might make a move.

I was sitting at the coffee shop a couple of months ago working on my
Acer C300 in tablet mode when none other than the mayor walks in with a
small group of people to have a meeting about the farmers market. He sits
down and opens up, you guessed it, an Acer C300 just exactly like mine. I
pointed out the similarity and he said the whole city commission had
them. But he just uses it as a regular laptop. They don't have the time
to sit down and learn about the time saving features. It's such a pity.

When I moved back to Oz, I frequented an internet cafe for a while and
really pissed off the guy with the super wide-screen imac who sat in the
window most days. He finally crept off into a dark forgotten corner of
history.

Everywhere that I use my M1300 in public I get mobbed by people who want to
know more. Sadly there is very little marketing effort for tablets in
Australia - the distributors either don't have them, don't know what they're
for, or have broken models on display. AFAICT only the Toshiba is advertised
here, Dell don't resell any (and don't respond to enquiries on the subject),
and there are no slate models of any description available.

I'm surprised that Apple didn't come out with a Tablet First. They are
usually the most innovative when it comes to computers, and they Macs were
the first to have USB, Standard DVD Burners on their machines (and more
importantly the software to burn your own movies in a professional style).
Plus since many people in industries such as graphic design, publishing, etc,
use mostly macs, I would have figured that the tablet would make their work
much much much more productive, and Apple would have come out with a Tablet
PC a long long time ago. I guess Old Steve Jobs is losing his touch.

Well figure tablets make up a very small percent of PC users. Apple already
has a relatively small audience. Until Tablets become mainstream it's not
worth it to apple.
