Tablet Edition 2005 & XPSP2

For those who already have a Tablet PC with the original Tablet PC Edition
superset on Windows XP Pro, you can now pre-order the Windows XP Service
Pack 2 which includes the update to Tablet PC Edition 2005.

Expected delivery time is four to six weeks after release, however, the
order and delivery are free:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/d...efault810.mspx
I suggest you get you order in, even if you are going to download from
Windows Update or via Automatic Update. It is handy to have the CD instead
of redownloading if you need to format your system. And Microsoft's web
site is recommending you share the CD with your friends, too, to get the new
XP SP2 security features onto as many XP computers as possible.

NOTE: This will not install the Tablet PC Edition 2005 superset on a
regular computer.

Re: Tablet Edition 2005 & XPSP2

Chris, It must really be smokin over there because I can't seem to complete
an order. I've tried several times starting after midnight central time and
can't get past the initial page. :(

The system isn't totally linked yet, so the orders may or may not be junked.
8-) Jumped the gun a little bit, but it'll be fully functional shortly.

Are all versions (home/professional/tablet) on the same CD? I get part way
through the order and get told I'm being shipped a CD for Windows XP
Professional.

Yes, you'll get all the options you need on one CD. It will install
depending on the machine to which it's installed.

Re: Tablet Edition 2005 & XPSP2

Now I'm getting blown off completely saying "Thank you for your interest in
the Windows XP Service Pack 2 CD. You will be able to order this CD when
Windows XP Service Pack 2 becomes available later this summer. Please check
back."

Oh well, I guess I'll just have to wait. :(

Re: Tablet Edition 2005 & XPSP2

My guess is that it was a test page. Whether or not the link will remain
the same, we don't know yet.

I'm pretty sure that the download will be available before the CD is
shipped, and it's also likely to be included with magazines as soon as the
CD is ready as well. It will be nice to have the CD available, though.

Yup, and my apologies. I didn't realize it was a test page. When official
notification goes up, you could place the order again to make sure. And if
you get two, give one to a friend who is on dial-up.

So, Chris, I'm curious...

Do you just constantly pour over all of the Microsoft web site to fine
these things? When you first made the post I thought you just had advance
notice because of your MVP status. But now I'm really wondering how you
find all these things.

Not sure where it sprang from, but the page was heavily posted on SP2 beta
newsgroups.

The XPSP2 network/multi-machine installer is about 300 megs, and available at
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en.
