If I understood you right, one of your main ideas was to use it with a
projector.
Perhaps getting a new projector with WLAN access could solve the
problem?

You have my attention... can you reference one?

It's unlikely to happen before this projector croaks, but would like to
educate myself in the mean time.

One key question for me would be how the computer would output onscreen
video to the network.

Thanks,

Sorry, no.
AFAICS all of the major manufacturers have something in their portfolio.
But the market differs a bit between Germany and the US.
I was after that a longer while ago in order to steer my
PPT-presentation "unplugged" either from my TabletPC or a PDA. The
administration was not too embarrassed and I just was not too tough
after it. So the topic fell a bit behind. But my time will come ;-)

A "slate", a subnotebook or a UMPC (and depending on the basic
construction of a screenshow even a PDA) connected without a cable IMO
does add a lot to teaching.

When researching on the WLAN features of projectors the output mostly
was quite good.
