Problem with parameters screen and rotation of the screen

--> Oups! I just sent before by error the french version of this message
on this forum. Soory! <--

Hi,

I have a Fujitsu 4220 Tablet PC since one month with a high resolution
screen (1400x1050). Last update of drivers is done. When I rotate my screen,
the resolution is 1400x1050, the resolution downsize to 1280x768, the screen
shrink from 12" to may be 8", proportions switch from "full screen" to
"center screen" option. If I rotate back the screen, the screen rotate, but
there is no changes of size and resolution of the screen. What can be the
problem? If some of you have any idea, I will be very interested. I run
Vista SP1, 4 Gig of RAM, graphic parameters are:

First, I don't have vista and have seen that there are some problems
with the graphics utils under vista... that said, on the XP, this works...

controlpanel/graphics utility.

The intel graphics utility then should have a "display settings" tab,
which includes the current resolution.

Assuming that works, use the "fujitsu tablet controls" and "save current
profile" which I _think_ will preserve it for future switches.

fwiw, while the graphics utility does set the resolution I have noticed
that it does _not_ preserve the resolution setting even if you save it
in a scheme, but the profile settings apparently does save it.

Re: Problem with parameters screen and rotation of the screen

Thanks for your answer!

I saved profile like you explain but again, when I rotate the screen, the
image reduce from 12" to 8" and full screen option is not preserved. Any
other idea please?

Thank again for your time.

Are you able to reset the resolution to the correct value after you
rotate using the graphics utility?

exact steps of what works and what doesn't would be appreciated.

Re: Problem with parameters screen and rotation of the screen

Yes. Here are the steps:

Test 1: Beginning with my screen at 1400x1050 resolution in landscape mode,
proportion to full screen, stylet calibrated and profil saved:

1) I rotate the screen in portrait mode (90 degrees). Then the screen
downsize to 768X1280, screen shrink to 8", and proportion to center mode.
Also the stylet is no more calibrate.
2) I rotate back the screen to landscape mode. Then the screen come back to
1400x1050 resolution, the screen at 12", stylet is calibrate, but parameter
stay to center mode.

Test 2: Screen at 768x1280 resolution in landscape mode, proportion to full
screen, stylet calibrated and profil saved:

1) I rotate the screen in portrait mode. Then the screen stay at 1280X768,
but screen shrink to 8", and proportion to center mode. Also the stylet is
no more calibrate.
2) I rotate back the screen to landscape mode. Then the screen stay to
768x1280 resolution, the screen come back to 12", stylet is calibrate and
parameter come back to full mode.

Test 3: Screen at 1400x1050 resolution in landscape mode, proportion to full
screen, stylet calibrated and profil not saved since test 2:

1) I rotate the screen in portrait mode. Then the screen downsize to
1280X768, screen at 8", and proportion to center mode. Also the stylet is no
more calibrate.
2) I rotate back the screen to landscape mode. Then the screen stay to
768x1280 resolution, the screen come back to 12", stylet is calibrate and
parameter come back to full mode.

Every time, I come back from portrait mode to landscape mode, the windows of
MS Word (Office 2007), which was full screen, downsize and buttons to reduce
or get full screen become unsteady.

What do you think of that?

Re: Problem with parameters screen and rotation of the screen

I'm having some problems understanding... for example, don't know what
"stylet" refers to ...perhaps "stylus?"

>> >> Every time, I come back from portrait mode to landscape mode, the

windows of MS Word (Office 2007), which was full screen, downsize <<

From my experience, that is "normal" ...the window is essentially
staying the same size on one axis and retaining proportions... if it
does not do this, the user looses control by not being able to get to
the borders for the controls that are there.

>> and buttons to reduce or get full screen become unsteady. <<

no idea... that I would go to fuji tech with

>> Then the screen downsize to 768X1280, screen shrink to 8", and

proportion to center mode. <<

OK... the question is if you can then use the graphic utility while in
that orientation to set the resolution to the maximum available resolution.

No Vista but an answer for everthing - IMHO that's a shame!
Especially as you seem to capture all of the space in here <g,d&rf>.

Honestly speaking:
I'm really wondering where all of the good old folks who used to

Re: Problem with parameters screen and rotation of the screen

Hi Mr. Howard,

You said: "I'm having some problems understanding... for example, don't know

You're right. I mean "stylus", if that mean the pencil use with a Tablet PC.
When it's calibrated, the little arrow on the screen is just under the tip
of the pencil and far away if it's not calibrated.

You said too: "OK... the question is if you can then use the graphic utility
while in that orientation to set the resolution to the maximum available
resolution."
I did and unexpectly, that seem to resolve the problem. I don't understant
why I must put the sreen in portrait mode to save the profil (??). Why not
in landscape mode?

But I meet an other problem with the rotation of the screen.
I put my tablet PC in a port replicator when I am at the office principaly
to use a larger screen (Viewsonic Optiquest 21"). Sometimes, I use to ask to
some client to sign a form. So, I rotate the screen in portrait mode, put
off the port replicator and after some flickering of the image, I get a full
screen image at the same resolution that in landscape mode. After the client
has sign the form, I put the Tablet on the port replicator and rotate the
screen right away in landscape mode. After some flickering (about 10
seconds), I got a full screen image in landscape mode at the same resolution
than I was at the beginning. But if I do that 2 more times, the third time
(and forth, fifth, etc.) i come back to the landscape mode, the image stay
in portrait mode. Any idea what can be the cause of that?

Thanks again!

I don't have any good answers other than to suggest that you attempt to
calibrate in each orientation on the possibility that each calibration
will be saved with that orientation... might also try to calibrate and
save profile in each orientation if that doesn't work.

confirm that you always hold the pen the same way... if you look
closely, you will see that the onscreen arrow is a mm or sp below the
tip and calibration essentially corrects for how you perceive the
location... switch hands and you will see that it appears that
calibration has been lost.

>> Why not in landscape mode? <<

don't have a clue???

>> flickering <<

don't know

on mine, using the button, the flip is instant if nothing is running, a
short pause if an app is open...

that could indicate that a lot is happening in memory... perhaps due to
a number of apps running which must each be reorientated to vista or
other background software.

Guess I ran them off... although I do qualify as "old" ;-)

imho, it's pretty discouraging that several of the primary needs posted
here can't be addressed by users and ms remains unresponsive to user needs.

Re: Problem with parameters screen and rotation of the screen

Hey guys, I'm wondering if you can help me out . . .
My question is not exactly related to the screen parameters, but it has more
to do w/ pictures. When I pull up a photo, its parameters are not preserved,
it's either stretched a little horizontally when in landscape position or
stretched a lot when in portrait. What can I do to keep my pictures in the
right proportions on my tablet??

Please&Thanks

Re: Problem with parameters screen and rotation of the screen

insufficient data capt'

"when I pull up" is way too general, but, stabbing in the dark, would
suspect it is an issue with the program you are using to open the picture.

Also, please start a new thread and repost the question and details there.

Thanks,

What software are you using to pull up the pictures? It sounds like
whatever you are using has got a "Fit to screen" option set.

Try downloading Irfanview from www.irfanview.com

Using whatever Windows Default is . . . Picture Viewer.

Re: Problem with parameters screen and rotation of the screen

I concur with Invalid... install Irfanview and make it the default for
image viewing... imho, most alternatives are better, but, take a moment
to check it's settings... I don't have it on my box, so, can't help.
