Can I install Tablet XP on my Desktop Computer and other questions...

Hi there,

Like many, I am new to tablets and would not call myself
the most computer inclined person. However, I am setting
up a wireless home network and would like to ask for some
of your advice on a couple of matters. I have done some
reading on the topic and have read the last two months of
postings on this newsgroup to try to ask the most
approriate and least redundant questions. my tab is the
Acer C110.

1. Since XP tablet is essentially XP pro can I install it
on my home desktop (currently windows ME) to ensure the
most optimized networking and benefits of the XP versions?

2. Does anyone have a link/reference for setting up a
secure wireless home network that a blonde neophyte could
follow?

3. Any streamlining that I ought to do for the Acer c110?

4. Any suggestions (applications/hardware) for a young
physician who is trying to integrate newer technologies
into medicine (I am already aware of the Med dictionary
mentioned in this newsgroup)

5. Lastly, any idea of a final release date for SP2 'cuz
it's killing me to read all the excitment, yet I am
unwilling to do a complete re-install if I load the RC
version (refer back to blonde computer neophyte).

Thanks in advance,
Mike

No. You can only install it on the machine to which it's licensed, in this
case, the Tablet PC that it came with. This is true will all versions of
Windows. It can only be installed on one machine per license.

SP2 will do this for you. In the meantime, you might want to check some of
the articles written by Barb Bowman in the Expert Zone.

Keep the patches and updates current. Make sure you're running an antivirus
and antispyware program that is kept up to date and run maintenance
routinely.

Tablet Planner or GoBinder (customized to your practice)

No date has been announced, but rumor has it that it will be in the next few
weeks.

Hi Terri,

Mike may want to consider PlanPlus for WindowsXP instead of TabletPlanner
(both from Franklin Covey). It appears as though PlanPlus replaces
TabletPlanner and a bonus is that it runs on both the TabletPC and desktop
PC.

Re: Can I install Tablet XP on my Desktop Computer and other questions...

Terri does a good job in answering your questions, but I'll give a slightly
different spin to her first answer.

The only difference between an up to date installation of XP pro and the XP
pro on the tablet PC is that the OS on the tablet includes features for
hardware on the tablet that is not included on a standard desktop or laptop.
